AN ORDINANCE MtillNDING SECTION 193 OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE CITY OF GILROY, RELATIVE TO OBSTRUCTIONS ON SIDEWALKS,
PROHIBITING THE KEEPING AND EXHIBITION OF MERCHANDISE ON SIDEWALKS
AND REGULATING SIGNS AND ADVERTISEMENTS:
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Gilroy <<0
ordain as follows:
Section 1.
That Section 193 of the Municipal Code of the City of
Gilroy be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows;
Section 193: No person, firm or corporation owning or
occupying any building or premises fronting upon any public street
in the City of Gilroy, shall place, or cause to be placed or maintain
or suffer upon the street or sidewalk in front of such building'or
premises, any sign or advertisement which shall project over the
sidewalk more than two feet from the inner line of said sidewalk,
nor shall any such person, firm or corporation place, ~~i~e to .
be placed, kept or maintained for sale or exhibition ~; vegetables,

,goods, wares or merchandise of any kind on any sidewalk in the City
of Gilroy.
Provided that merchants, tradesmen and persons engaged
in receiving, forwarding and expressing goods and other co~odities,
may use a portion of the sidewalk in front of their respective places
of business for depositing such goods or commodities for a period of
time not exceeding four hours in anyone day.
Nothing herein contained shall prevent, during business
hours, the placing of bicycle racks or holders on the outside
portion of the sidewalk and next to the street curb in front of

premises occupied for business purposes, provided, said bicycle
rack or holder does not extend over such sidewalk more than thirty
inches from the outer line of the curb.

All ordinances and parts o~ordinances in con~lict here-
with are hereby repealed.
Section 3.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and
after its passage and approval.
