AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 242A OF ARTICLE III,
OF CHAPTER IV, OF' f'ART II, CF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE
OITY OF GILROY ES'l'ABLISHING DIS'l'RIC'I'S Oi'l THE CITY OF GILROY,
FOR THE PURPOSE 0.1:<' BUILDING REGULA'I'IONS AND PROVIDING FOR
BUILDING PERMITS. .
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Gilroy
~ do ordain as follows:
SECTION I.
That Section 242-A of Article III, of Chapter IV, of
)( Part II, of the ~nicipal Code of the City of Gilroy, be and
~
the same is hereby amended to read as follows, to-wit:
"Section 242-A. In the Residence District of the City
of Gilroy, streets running North and South are hereby designated
as front streets, and all streets running East and West as side
streets, and no buildings, other than dwelling houses, private
barns, garages, storerooms, woodsheds and necessary outbuildings
sha-ll be erected; provided, however, hospitals, apartment houses,
churches, libraries, and other structures of a semi-public
character, may be erected with the consent of the Mayor and
Common Council and the approval of the property owners owning
a majority of the adjacent property si~uated within a radius of
one-hundred feet of said proposed structure; and no buildings of
any kind shall hereafter be erected on, or moved and located upon
any block in the Residence District of the City of Gilroy, which
shall be closer to the property line of the front street side of ~
the lot on which it is to be located, than the majority of the
dwelling houses heretofore erected and facing said street in said
block. In all blocks in which there are no dwelling houses on
front street side thereof, buildings shall be erected at least
twenty feet from the property line on such front streets. On all
lots facing side street, the buildings shall be erected at least
twenty feet from the pronerty line of front street and at least

twelve feet from the property line of the side street. store-
rooms, woodsheds, private barns, garages and all outbuildings
shall be erected on the rear part of the lot when practicable.
Porches shall be considered a part of the building.l~.~
Part II.
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
Part III.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
and after its passage and approval.
