RESOLUTION NOo 1165
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY, COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA,
CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED MULTIPLE USE CLASSIFICATION OF
PUBLIC LANDS IN SAID COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the Classification and Multiple Use Act of the Eighty-
eighth Congress gives the Secretary of the Interior authority to classify
public land for retention and management, and authorizes the Secretary of
the Interior to formulate regulations and criteria under which publ ic land
might be classified either for retention and management or for disposal
under the various land laws; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County have
previously requested that the United States Department of Interior Bureau
of Land Management withhold disposal of any public domain lands within
the County of Santa Clara until such time as the cooperative planning and
classification effort was completed involving the United States Govern-
ment, the State of California, the County of Santa Clara, and the various
cities in the County of Santa Clara; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Interior Bureau of Land
Management has given formal notice in the Federal Register that it will
receive comments, suggestions or objections in connection with the proposed
classification in writing for a period of sixty days commencing with the
date of publishing (September 28, 1967); and
WHEREAS, the proposed Multiple Use Classification is consistent
with the desires and needs of the County of Santa Clara, to wit, retention
and management of these lands for out-door recreation, wildlife develop-
ment and utilization, and the preservation of the present wilderness charac-
ter with the understanding that retention and management of these public
domain lands will be "on an assembled basis" so that they can be exchanged
to achieve meaningful recreational usage.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Gi lroy City Council,
County of Santa Clara, State of California, does hereby support the pro-
posed classification of the public domain lands in the County of Santa
Clara; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution shall be sent
to the affected State and Federal governmental agencies and legislators.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Gilroy,
County of Santa Clara on the 20th day of November, 1967, by the following
vote:
