Resolution 857 RESOLUTION NOo 857 WHEREAS, the democratic form of government vests in citizens the right and duty to participate in their government; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the United States of America partici- pate in their government by exercising the right to vote under a free electoral system; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Gi lroy, State of California, deems the exercise of the right to vote to be a vital func- tion of the rights of citizenship; and WHEREAS, residents of voting age must register to vote to be eligible to vote in the November, 1964 election; and WHEREAS, September 10, 1964 is the final day one can register to vote; and WHEREAS, said City Council desires to focus attention on the right to vote and the importance of registration to vote, NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED that the week from September 3, 1964 to September 10, 1964 is deemed to be: VOTER REGISTRATION WEEK and all residents of voting age are urged to register to vote by Septem- ber 10, 1964 so they may cast their ballot in the November, 1964 electiono PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Gilroy, State of California, on the 31st day of August, 1964, by the following vote: AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Eckard,Goodrich,Jordan,Quartiroli, and Peterseno NO ES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Duffin and Wentworth APPROVED:. ...
