Resolution 1990-09 . . RESOLUTION NO. 90 - 9 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY COHMENDING THE MEMBERS OF THE 129TH AIR RESCUE GROUP, CALIFORNIA AIR NATIONAL GUARD WHEREAS, when the October 17th Earthquake occurred in Northern California, the men and women of Moffett Naval Air Station, Onizuka Air Force Base and the 129th Air Rescue Group, California Air National Guard provided extraordinary relief assistance to the impacted areas throughout Northern California; and WHEREAS, Moffett Naval Air Station served as the hub of the federal and state rescue and relief efforts for the impacted areas. The service personnel of Moffett Naval Air Station, Onizuka Air Force Base and the 129th Air Rescue Group, California Air National Guard were mobilized immediately and within 30 minutes of the earthquake support was airlifted to the disaster areas. Over 780 tons of earthquake supplies were distributed through Moffett Naval Air Station; and WHEREAS, these outstanding men and women helped in the rescue of injured survivors, firefighting, crowd control, establishing relief centers and transporting food, clothing and medical supplies. They went far beyond the call of duty to provide heroic services, often in life-threatening situations; and WHEREAS, the spirit of volunteerism included 65 tons of food and clothing donated by the base personnel and dependents and delivered to the disaster areas; and WHEREAS, the performance of the Armed Services personnel was truly in the finest tradition of the U.S. military's peacetime vigilance. Their efforts will forever live in the memories of a grateful population they assisted in a critical time. -1- RESOLUTION NO. 90 - 9 . . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Gilroy, County of Santa Clara, State of California does hereby honor and commend the members of the 129TH AIR RESCUE GROUP, CALIFORNIA AIR NATIONAL GUARD for the courage, competence and resolve they displayed in the aftermath of the October 17th Earthquake.
