ORDINANCE NUMBER 478 OFTHE CITY OF GILROY PROVIDING FOR THE
ALTERATION OF THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF GILROY BY THE ANNEXATION
OF CERTAIN TERRITORY THERETO, DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS "THE SECOND
WESTERN ADDITION TO THE CITY OF GILROY", UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF
THE ANNEXATION ACT OF 1913, AND FOR THE INCORPORATION OF SUCH,
ANNEXED TERRITORY IN AND AS A PART OF SUCH MUNICIPALITY AND FOR THE
DISTRICTING, GOVERNMENT AND MUNICIPAL CONTROL OF SUCH ANNEXED
TERRITORYo
WHEREAS, proceedings for the annexation of certain territory
to the City of Gilroy contiguous thereto and designated in the said
proceedings as "The Second Weste~n Addition to the City of Gilroy",
the boundaries of which are more particularly hereinafter described
have been instituted under the provisions of the Annexation Act of
1913, and

WHEREAS, a special election was duly called, noticed and
held as required by law on the 12th day of May, 1950, within
the said territory proposed to be so annexed to said City, at which
election there was submitted to the electors in said territory the
proposition: Shall The Second Western Addition to the City of Gilroy
be annexed to the City of Gilroy; and
~~EREAS, the Common Council of the City of Gilroy has
heretofore and en this 16th day of May, 1950, duly canvassed the
returns of said election and adopted a resolution and order canvassing
said returns and declaring the result of said election, entered upon
the minutes of the Common Council, from which it appears that at said
election there were 77 votes cast upon the said proposition of
annexation, of which 49 votes were cast in favor of and for the
annexation of said territory to the City of Gilroy and 28 votes were

cast against the said proposition and against said annexation and
that a majority of all the votes cast in said election were in favor
of the said proposition and for the annexation of said territory to
said City and that said territory may now be so annexed to said
City, and
Vv.HEREAS, notice of said election was duly given in .the form

and for the time required by law and said election conducted as
required by law, and all the said annexation proceedings ~ere
regular and in compliance with law:
THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 10 Under the authority of the Annexation Act of
1913 as set forth in the Government Code, there shall be and is
hereby annexed to and incorporated within the said City of Gilroy
the said territory hereinbefore and in said annexation proceedings
designated as "The Second Western Addition to the City of Gilroy",
the boundaries of which annexed territ0rY are more particularly
described as follows:
"BEING a part of Ranch Lots 16 and 20 as shown
on Map No. 7 accompaning the report of the Referees
in the Las Animas Partition Suit, Action No. 5536,
had in the Superior Court of the State of California,
in and for the County of Santa Clara, and more part-
icularly described as follows:
BEGINNING at the intersection nf the westerly line
of Princevalle Street ~ h the southerly line of
Third Street, being in the present westerly Corporate
Limits of the City of Gilroy, and running thence along
the southerly line of Third Street to the easterly line
of Miller Avenue; thence westerly across Miller.Avenue
to the point of intersection of the westerly line
of Miller Avenue with the southerly line of Third
Street as shown on Map entitled "Tract No. 506,
Castlewood Park Unit No.1", as recorded in Book 18
at page 40 of Maps, Official Records of Santa Clara
County; thence alnng the southerly line of Third
Street N. 890 l3t 301t W. 150.00 feet to the westerly
line of said Castlewood Park; thence along the
westerly line of Castlewood Park 80046' 30"W.'928.05
feet to the southerly line of Castlewood Park; thence
along the southerly line of Castlewood Park S. 89. lot
30" E. 150.00 feet to the westerly line of Miller
Avenue; thence continuing on same course 80.00 feet
to the easterly line of Miller Avenue; thence along
the easterly line of Mille r Avenue S. 00 46 t 3011
w. to its intersection with the southerly line of
Fifth Street; thence easterly along the southerly line
of Fifth Street to the westerly line of Princevalle
street; thence northerly along the westerly line of
Princevalle Street to the southerly line of Third
Street and the point of beginning'!';
and the annexation of said territory and lands to said City of
Gilroy is hereby approved.
SECTION 20 The said lands hereby annexed to the City of
Gilroy shall be known as "The Second Western Addition to the City

of Gilroy", and the boundaries of the said City of Gilroy shall
be and are hereby altered so as to include said annexed territoryo
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after the d ate of the filing of a duly certified
copy of this ordinance in the nffice of the Secretary of State.
ADOPTED AND PASSED this 16th day of May, A.D., 1950, by the
following vote:
