ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GILROY AMENDING SECTION 3 OF ORDINANCE
NO. 471, WHICH PROVIDES FOR THE REGULATION AND LICENSING OF
BICYCLES AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF BY
REDUCING THE LICENSE PEE FROM THE SUM OF $1.00 to THE SUM OF
$0.50 FOR EACH VEHICLE
TaE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 471 of the City of
Gilroy is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 1. Any person, firm or corporation owning a bicycle
shall have such bicy~}e registered as herein provided: and shall
make application in writing to the City Marshal upon forms provided
by that officer, upon which form of application shall be shown the
name and address of the applicant, also signature of applicant, a
description of such b*cyc1e, including the name, serial number if
any, and color thereof, together with such other information or
description as may be required by said City Marshal sufficient to
identify the same: said application shall be signed by applicant.
Upon receipt of any application the City Marshal shall
register the said bicycle in a permanent register maintained by
him and such bicycle shall be given a serial number and an identify-
ing letter.
In addition to registering such bicycle in such permanent
register, the City Marshal shall issue to such applicant a regi-
stration certificate and license plate bearing the number which
must also be entered in said permanent register.
Such registration and license plate shall be good from the
date of registration to the date upon which the ownership of the
bicycle changes at which time such bicycle shall be re-registeeed
in the name of the new owner.
In the event that the license plate is lost, stolen or
mutilated, the person, firm or corporation owning any such bicycle
shall make an application to re-register such bicycle and a new
license plate shall be procured from the License Collector, for
which the applicant shall pay a fee in the sum of $0.50. The
City Marshal shall cancel the registration of such bicycle in
the permanent register and such bicycle shall be re-registered
and if necessary, be given a new serial number and identifying
letter.

SECTION 2. Section 3 of Ordinance No. 471 of the City of
Gilroy is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 3. A person shall not operate or use, or cause or
permit to be operated or used any such bicycle in, along or across
any public highway in the City of Gilroy unless there shall have
been first obtained by or on behalf of the owner of such bicycle
a license so to do, which license shall be procured from the City
License Collector, and for which the applicant shall have paid
a license fee in the sum of Fifty ($0.50) Cents. Each such
license fee shall be subject to renewal whenever the ownership of
the bicycle changes. Each such license when so issued shall en-
title the licensee to operate such bicycle for which such license
shall have been issued, uponJ!ny o~ the public highways within the
City of Gilroy to the next~: a new application for a
lice~~ shall be filed and license obtained prior to the 10th day
of Jau1A~~Y of each year.
The License Collector is hereby authorized and directed to
issue upon written application bicycle licenses which shall be
effective as herein provided. When issued such license shall
entitle the licensee to operate such bicycle for which the license
has been issued upon the public highways of the City of Gilroy,
exclusive of sidewalks in any business district of said City.
SECTION 3. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in
conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
full force from and after its passage and approval.
