ORDINANCE NO. 2003-23
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY TO PLACE A FREEZE ON SALARY INCREASES
FOR MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE MAYOR
FOR THE FISCAL YEAR OF 2004-2005.
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 99-01, adopted by the City Council on February 16, 1999,
sets forth salaries for the members of the City Council and the Mayor of the City of Gilroy, and
provides for salary increases on a fiscal year basis in accordance with the ,San Francisco/Oakland
Consumer Price Index (CPI); and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 99-01 and the formula for increases, each City
Councilmember currently receives a salary of $687.00 per month, and the Mayor currently
receives a salary of$1030.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, the City Councilmembers, due to concerns about the economy and its
adverse affect on the City budget, desire to forego their annual salary increases authorized by
Ordinance No. 99-01, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2004, and will again review the fiscal
situation in or about March 2005 to consider whether the freeze on salary increases shall be
extended.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section I.
Notwithstanding Ordinance No. 99-01, members of the Gilroy City
Council shall be paid the following salaries for their services for the fiscal year 2004/2005,
which begins July 1, 2004:
(a) Each Councilmember shall receive a salary of $687.00 per month through
June 30, 2005.

(b) The Mayor shall receive a salary of $1030.00 per month through June 30,
2005.
Section II.
The City Council in or about March 2005 will review this freeze on salary
increases to determine what compensation shall be paid for the fiscal year 2005-2006.
