AN ORDINANCE to prohibit and snppres@
Houses. of Prostitution, 111 Fame, Disorderly
Houses and Brothels within the City of Oil -"
roy.
The Mayor and Common Council of the City
of Gilroy do ordain:
- Section 1. It shall be unlawful to open or
maintain any house of prostitution, ill fame,
disorderly house or brothel within the corporate
limits of the city of Gilroy; and it shall be un-
lawful for any owner or agent of anyhouse or
building within the said city to let, hire or rent
the sauce for the occupancy of women of ill
fame, and it shall be unlawful for any euch
women to_live or dwell in any house in said city. II
Section 2. Any person or persons who shall
open, keep or maintain any house of prostitu-
tion, ill, fame, disorderly house or brothel, or
,_say house reputed to be a house of prostitution ;
or ill fame; in said city; and any owner or agent
of any house or property within said city, who
'shall let,: hire or rent the same for -he occu• '
paucy of women of ill fame or ill repute; and
any woman or womentf ill„ fam'o, who shall
occupy, live or dwell in,4ny house within said
city, shall, upon conviction thereof be puu-
ished by a fine not exceeding one hundred dol-
lars nor less than thirty, dollars, or 1?3�'imprlson-
ment. in the city jail for a term not exceeding
trirty days, or by both such fine and imprison -
meat.
It shall be sufficient• for t�A ,purpose of ob.
taitring a- conviction under the "provisiors of
this ordinance, to establish that any such
.house is reputed to be a house of ill fame, or
that the inmates of any such house are reputed
to be women of ill fame. -
S- etion. 3. This Ordinance shall take effect
and be in force on and aftet,the 1st day of An-
gus,, 1811.
