December 5,1938.
The regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor S.D.Heck.
Present: Councilmen George C.M1lias,Jr.,Jack Rogers,George A.
Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner. Absent:Councilman James Battersby.
Minutes of the meetings of November '1th and November 2lst,1938
are read and approved.
Motion by Councilman Rogers,seconded by Councilman Heiner and
carried unanimously that four hundred feet of two am one-half inoh
:tIre hose be purohased fram the American Rubber Manufacturing Com-

pany,oouplings to be changed without charge to the City.
This being the time speoified to ppen bids for a new truck for
the Street Department six bids are presented and read.

Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Counmlman Martin and
carried unanimously that the purchase of a truck for the Street
Department be laid oyer until Thursday,December 8,1938,! o'olock
P.M.
Mr.George C.Renz,chairman of the Christmas Decorating Committee
of the Chamber of Commerce,appears before the Counoil to request
financial assistance for the Christmas decorations. It is agreed

that the City will furnish the large tree at the corner of 6th and
~nterey Streets and the electricity for the street lights.
Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried unanimously that the Clerk notify all major oil companies
by letter that the COUiloilLwilla9cept, bids to.. turmsh the City
with gasoline, for the period January 14,1939 to .January 13,1940,
at the next regular meeting,.January 3,1939.
Councilman Milias,chairman o~ the garbage ordinance committee,
reports on the meeting of the committee.
Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Milias and
carried unanimously that the City Attorney be instructed to draw
anordinanee similar to the Salinas ordinance governing the disposal
of garbage .the ordinance to embody prices to be charged as set forth
in that ordinance,with certain changes.
Motion by Councilman Rogers,seconded by CounCilman Martin and
oarried unanimously that the report of the cOlDD1ittee be adopted
relative.to that the c9ntraot for the disposal of garba~ be let
1;0 oompeti tive bidding for a period of five Yf:lars.
Councilman Rogers disousses the plaoing of au electrolier at the
corner of I.O;O.F.Ave.and Monterey Street. No action isttaken.
Mr.H.P.Atkinson appears before the Council to request that the
Coast Counties Gas & Electric Company be asked to paint the elec-
troliers on Monterey Street.
Reports of the Oity officers are read.
Motion by Councilman Mi1ias,seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried unanimously that the reports of the City officers be accepted
as read and plaoed on file.
Motion by Councilman Rogers,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried unanimously that the bills as presented be allowed and
warrants ordered drawn on the Treasurer.
