The regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor S.D.Heck.
Present:Councilmen: George C.Milias,Jr.,Jack Rogers, George A.
Martin,George M.Mason,Nat Heiner. Absent:Councilman James Battersby.
The minutes of the meetings of April 3rd and l7th are read and
approved.
Mr.Sidney S.Johnson appears before the Council to protest the use
of the property at the northeast corner of 9th and Church streets
. (
for a contractor's yard. Further discussion is postponed until later
in the meeting.
A communication from Mrs.M.A.Smith,Route 1,Box 4, is read requesting
an extension of the sewer line on First street to the Newell property.
Motion by Councilman Rogers,seconded by Councilman Martin and carried

unanimously that the sewer line be extended on First Street,to the
Newell property, providing a building of reasonable cost be placed on
on the property.
A communication from Mr.Horace C.Willson,relative to the garbage
disposal contract, is read.

A communication from Logan & Frazer/stating that the city's books
and accounts had been audited for the quarter ending IJarch 3l,1939.
There being no objection the communication is ordered filed.
A communication from the Gilroy .Community Chest is read asking
for the city's annual donation to the chest.
Motion by Councilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Milias and
carried unanimously that the sum of $200.00 be donated to the
Gilroy Community Chest.
Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried unanimously that the sum of $50.00 be donated to the Gilroy
Fire Department.
Mr.George C.Renz aprears before the Council to discuss his use of
of the property at 9th & Church sts. for his storage yard. The sale
of the city's property located on the northeast corner of East street
and Old Gilroy street to 1~.Renz for his storage yard,is discussed,
and a committee will visit the property with Mr.Renz.
The matter of trucks parking on Monterey street while delivering
merchandise to the stores,is discussed.The Traffic Officer is
instructed to have all trucks unloading cargo to use the alleys.
The matter of replacing a part of the pipe line from the reservoir
to the dam is discussed. It is stated that the right-of-way from
hirs. Shay is awai ting her signature.
The Clerk is instFucted to write to the Rye Tract~r & Equipment
Company for more information in regard to their bill.
Mayor Heck states that the work on the Carnadero Levee has been
c ompl et e d .
Renorts of the city officers are read.
Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried unanimously that the reports of the city officers be accepted
and placed on file.
Motion by Councilman"Rogers,seconded By Councilman Milias and
carried unanimously that the bllls as presented be allowed and
warrants ordered drawn on the treasurer.
