The Mayor being absent this regular monthly meeting of the Common
Council is called to order by the City Clerk.

Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried unanimously that Councilman Milias be appointed ex-officio
Mayor.
Present:Councilmen: George C.Milias,Jr.,Jack Rogers, James
Battersby, George A.Martin, George M.Mason,Nat Heiner. Absent:
Councilmen: None.
Minutes of the meetings of May lst and May 24th,l939,are read and
approved.
A communication is read from Louis Cordich,manager of the Gilroy
Druids Hardball Team, requesting permission to rope off certain
certain streets in the vicinity of the Jordan School baseball
grounds.
Motion by Councilman Battersby,seconded by Councilman Martin
and carried unanimously that the Gilroy Druids Hardball Team be
granted permission to rope off Carmel street ,Second street and
Dowdy Street to Carmel Street,for the three games mentioned in
the team manager's communication.
A co~unication is read from Robert C.Goold offering to furnish
l-2 stage Sterling bowl unit and accessories, capacity about lOOO
gallons at 40 foot total head,for the sum of $400.00.
A communication is read from Lee L.Mathison offering to furnish
necessary materials and instal the pump on"the Sewer Farm property
for the sum of $84.00 and allow the sum of $25.00 for the old
pump and accessories.
Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Martin and
carried unanimously that the offers submitted by Robert C.Goold
for the pump and Lee L.Mat hison for installati on and materials,
be accepted, that contracts be drawn by the City Attorney to in-
clude a one year guarantee on the pump.
Councilman Mason reports that (1or(lon R.Chap!lel1,low biaoer for
460 feet of plpeito replace part of the pipe line from the dam to
the reservoir,had agreed to do all thililgs. disccused at the Hay 24th
meet ing.
Motion by Councilman Battersby,seconded by Councilman Mason and
carried unanimous.ly that the bid of Godron E.Chappell,for pipe, be

Councilman Heiner discusses the purchase of several new pieces
of equipment needed by t he Fire Dep3 rtment.
Fire Chief Jack Ramazane explains the need of the the new equip-
ment request ed.
I.Iotion by Councilman Martin, seconded by Counc ilman Heiner and
carried ulwnimously that the Fire Co~ittee purchase:l-Siamese~
with shut-off;2-Mystrey Nozzels;2-Firemen Pet Pipes;2-Shut-offs;
2-nozzel tips;3-hose and ladder straps.
A request from the Trustees of the l.O.O.F.Rome to erect- a
directional sign at Eonterey street and Martin Lane is presented.
The Cl erk is instructed to i morro the Home authori ti es that their
request should be sent to the Division of Highways.
H~.P.Perrelli appears before the Council to complain about the
noise from a church located at the northwest corner of Hanna and
Sixth Stree~adjacent to his property.
The matter is left to the Mayor for investigation.
I,lr.Edmund Piedmont appears before the Council to discuss the
condition of the city dump.
It is unanimously agreed that the city shall do the necessary 1Jt.Dtk
at the dump to put it in proper condition and the Sewer Committee
will oversee the work at the dump in the future.
Mr.Harry Scholten appears before the Council to discuss sewer.and
water connections and acceptance of streets,by the Council, on a part
of the James A.Clayton & Co. Addition,purchasedby him. The matter of
acceptance of streets is referred to the City Attorney for in-
vest igati on.,
Reports of the City officers are read.
Hot ion by Councilman He iner, seconded by Counc ilman Rogers and carried
unanimoUSly that the reports of the city officers be accepted as read
and placed on file.
The application of W.J.Hanna for the position of City Engineer is
read.
Motion by Councilman.Heiner,seconded by Councilman Battersby and
carried that the services of H.N.Bishop as City Engineer be dis-'
continued;that the Clerk so notify him and a vote of thanks be given
Mr.Bishop for his satisfactory services.
Motion by Councilman Battersby,seconded by Councilman Heiner and'
carried t~~t W.J.Hanna be appointed City Engineer,to hold office
at the will and pleasure of the Council;compensation for his services

to be as set forth in his application dated November 25,l938.

Motion by Councilman Ivlason,seconded by Councilman Rogers and
carried that the sum of $3,OOO~OO be transferred from the Water.
Fund to the General Fund. .
Motion by Councilman Martin,seconded by Councilman Rogers amd
carried that the bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered
drawn on the Treasurer.
