This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Mayor S.D.Heck,
Present:Councilmen:George C.Milias,Jr.,3ack Rogers,George A.Martin,
George M.Mason,Nat Heiner. Absent:Councilman James Battersby.
The Mayor discusses the purchase of a new fire truck, the cost of
placing the present truck in first class condition and calls upon
those present to express their opinions on the subject.
Appearing before the f',Council to discuss the subject 0 f fire
equipment are:Dr.H.R.Chesbro,~m.Hall,George A.Wentz,K.L.~Atee,
R.M.Martin,L.W.Wheeler,George Milias,Sr.,former Mayor Elmer J.
Chesbro,M.3.Byers,3.D.Chappell and E.J.Fabbri.
Councilman Milias discusses city finances.
Motion by Councilman Milias,seconded by Councilman Heiner and
carried unanimously that the tax rate for the fiscal year 1939-

1940 be at the rate of $1.00 on the $lOO.OO assessed valuation,
the money to be allocated to the several funds in the same
manner as the fiscal year 1938-l939:

Motion by Councilman Rogers,seconded by Councilman Milias and
carried unanimously that the City of Gilroy purchase a new fire
engine.
Councilman Rogers discusses the moving of a street light from
the corner of Miller Avenue and Bodfish Mill Road to the corner
of Carmel street and Bodfish Mill Road. This matter is referred
1P the Lighting Committee.
Councilman Rogers discusses the placing of an underground
~ank on the Gordon Chappell property on North Monterey Street
without complying with the requirements of the city ordinances.
The ~lliyor instructs the City Attorney to take the necessary
action in this r~tter.
Dr.Elmer J.Chesbro appears before the Council to discuss the
extension of certain water mains in the western section of the
City. The chairman of the TIater Committee is requested to secure
quotations on 8 inch cast iron pipe.
