December 6,194311 This regular monthly meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias,Jr. Present:Counoilmen George A.Martin,George M.Mason,James Battersby, Net Helner,J.H.Wentworth,David V.Stout. Absent:Counc1lmen:None. . Minu.tes of the meetings ot NGTember 2nd,16tb and 22nd.1943 are read and approved. A oom munication is read from the Commanding Officer or the 125th , Infantry oommending the Gilroy Vol~teer for their fine demonatration or NGvember 25th. A oommunication is read from Traffio Officer Norman B.Goodrioh tendering his resignation. A communication is read fram Leola Brownell requesting a renewal of her lease on 47 acres of the city's Sewer Far-m property. A oommunication is read the secretary of the Monterey Bay Area of 730 the League of California Cities stating that an assessment had been levied against each city in the amount ot $2.00 for incidental exposes. The communication from the Commanding Officer of the l25th Inf- antry 1 s ordered filed. Motion by Counoilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and carried that the assessment of $2.00 placed on the city by the Monterey Bay Area of the League of California Cities, be paid. Motion by Councilman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Stout and oarried that the resignation of Traffic Officer Norman Goodrich be aocepted and the Clerk instructed to write a letter of commend- ation to him. It is unanimoUsly agreed that the set ot handcuffs belonging 'to the city be given to Officer Goodrich. Motion by Councilman Stout,seoonded by Councilman Battersby that Leola Brownell be granted a renewal of lease on the 47.74 aores of land looated in Lot 8, Map of the Gilroy Sewer Farm, for a period of five years trom October 3l,l943, at an annual rental of .954.80. It is unanimously agreed that Henry Allemand, lessee of 89.72 acres of the city's Sewer Farm, be permitted to enter into an agreement with Mr~Vesey on spring lettuce. Motion by Coun~ilman Mason, seoonded by Councilman Stout and oarried that Leola Brownell be permitted to sub-lease her leased land to Herman Hooks and Ed.Davies and these two persons only. A report on water analysis is read and ordered placed on file. Mayor Milias states that he has had several oomplaints in regard to truoks speeding through the city. The Police committee is in- struoted to notify the Traffic Offioer to take steps to stop this practioe. The Mayor announces that the Chamber of Commerce plans to decorate the city for the HOlidays. It is unanimously agreed that the oity assume the power bill for the Christmas lighting. The Superintendent t of Streets is instructed to obtain suitable Christmas greens for decorating. The Mayor now discusses the henefit to the community as t he result of the 125th Infantry being established here and s1.lggests something be done to make Christmas of 1943 more enjoyable for the officers and men of t he regiment stat ioned here. Motion by Coubcilman Heiner,seconded by Councilman Martin and 731 carried that the sum of $200.00 be given to the Commanding Officer of the 125th Infantry,Colonel George L.Simpson, to assist in pro- viding Christmas entertai nment for the personnel stat ioned herelJlthe Commanding Officer to spend the money as he sees fit. Motion by Counmlman Heiner, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried that Jaok Ramezane be appointed Relief Driver for the Fire Dep!rtment at $75.00 per month, effective December 1,1943, to serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and Common Council. Ihe Mayor now discusses further improvement of Miller Slough on the Frechou property. Re ports 0 f the city 0 fficers are present ed and read. Motion by Councilman Stout, seconded by Councilman Wentworth and carried that the reports of city 0 fficers be accepted as read and placed on file. The Mayor announces that Mr.E.J.Fabbri, chairman of' the Gasoline Panel, Gilroy Rationing Board, has resigned and suggests that the remaining two members of this panel meet with the Council to discuss a successor to Mr. Fabbri. Motion by CounCilman Battersby, seconded by Councilman Srout and carried that bills as presented be allowed and warrants ordered drawn on the Treasurer. The Clerk is instructed to send notices to all ~~l companies pay- ing city taxes that bids for the gasoline reQuirements for the city from January 15,1944 to January 15,1945, will be opened by the Council at the regular monthly meeting,January 3,1944.
