Motion by Councilman Daniels, second by Councilman Stout and

This regular adjouned meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by his Honor George C. Milias.
Present: Councilmen J.H. Wentwortrl, Ray L. Stevens, J. B. Thomas,
Dale D. Daniels, George M. Mason and DavidV. Stout.
Mayor Milias states that he has had a request from Mr. Hoey of
the Ousley Ranch to connect up with the water system at the Golf
Gilroy, California.

Motion by Councilman Stout, second by Councilman Mason and.
carried that a new committee of the Common Council be appointed
in the regular manner, to consiot of three members and to be known
as the Recreation Committee, whose duties it shall be to represent
the common Council on all matters of recreation, to work with the
Recreation Commission and to report to the Common Council from time
to time on recreational activities.
The Mayor appoints the following Councilmen as members of the
REcreation Committee: David V. Stout, Chairman, Dale Daniels and
Ray Stevens.
The hiring of Chas. Platt as relief man in the Fire Department and
to work in other City Depal"tments when not on duty in the Fire Depart-
ment is discussed. The Common Council unanimoulsy agrees to refer
the matter to the City Administrator for his study and recommendation.
The Purchasing A~ent is directed to purchase from Tom Sifton, a new
Harley Davidson Motorcycle, 1950 Model, with small motor and less
siren and chrome wheels, with radio equipment installed, less the
allowance for the motorcycle now owned by the City of Gilroy, all
as set forth in Mr. Sifton's letter of August 4, 1949.
! I The matter of eliminating left hand turns at certain streets inter-
secting Monterey Street is discussed. The City Clerk is directed to
ask for a survey by the Division of Highways and for recommendations
from that department.
Mr. Jack Ronald, representing the local Automobile Dealers Associa-
tion appears before the Common Council and states that the Association
is in accord with the efforts of the Council to obtain a branch Office
of the Department of Motor Vehicles in Gilroy and to help in the effort
of obtaining it.
