This regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to
order by His Honor Ilayar George C.Milias.
Present:Couneilmen George M.Mason,James B.Thomas,David V.Stout,
Dale D. Danie is , Carl W. Pate . Absent :Councilman J.H. Wentworth.
This being the time specified in a legal notice calling for bids
on one - Austin- ',VesternModel 40 Motor Sweeper with Leaf broom attach-
went one bid is presented and read.
I'lotion by Councilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Daniels and

carried that the bid of Edward Bacon Company of San Francisco
of �9,207.17,ineluding state sales tax,for one- Austin- 'Nestern
Model 40 Iiotor'Sweeper with Leaf Broom attachment, be accepted;
that the bidders verbal agreement for an allowance of 0300,00 oJi
t.
the old Austin - Western sweeper now owned by the city be acee*te.

and that the city be allowed a period of 90 days in which to•isell
the old machine.
The Building Inspector now presents a request from I.:r.biarino ELosso
located
to make certain improvements to the interior of his building, /at the
southeast corner of Ninth and I.onterey Streets and to tear down certain
buildings on the property.
l.- Ir.,Iosso now appears before the ;ouncil describe the extent of the
contemplated improvements and among other things to be done aALs to
replace the fence along the rear of the property next to the railroad
tracks with a wire fence.

I:_otion by I.Jouncilman Stout,seconded by Councilman Pate /that 1.1r.John
Triola,lessee of the Mosso property at the southeast corner of 1,1onterey
and Ninth Street, be granted a permit to place a concrete slab the
depth of the soi th:.pgrt of the building located at the northwest corner
of the property,that buildings located along the south line of the
property be demolished and a wire fence be erected along the east line
of the property next to the railroad company right of way.
Byron Brown,Civilian Defense Vice Commander now reports to the Council
on the meeting conducted by the League of California Cities at Sacramento
on the subject of civilian diFfense stating that a new ordinance is being
p- repared by the League for gdoption by the cities.
Councilman Stout reports that he «:investigated the request of the
California National Guard to lease a portion of the unimproved part
rear of the
ih the /iheeler Auditorium propertythat he recommended that entire
rear area be fenced at the expense of the State;that the rent for
the land be %�25.00 per month and that the lease be made in such a way
as to expire with the present lease on the building and that the fence
become the property of the city upon expiration of the lease.
The matter of placing some of the playground equipment,originally
approved for the Brownell school playgrounds,on the Eliot School grounds
is now discussed by Councilman Stout,chairman of the Recreation Committee.
It is unanimously agreed that all playground equipment being paid for
by the city be placed on the Brownell School playgrounds
