Minutes 1955/02/08 1 1587 Gilroy, California February 8,1955 In the absence of His Honor Mayor George M.Mason the City Clerks cal~s this regular adjourned meeting of the Common Council to order. Present:Councilmen Carl W.Pate,Charles Gallo,J.Hughes Kennedy, Courtland M.Rush,Kenneth L.Petersen,Se6~ndo Sanchez. Also present are Mr.Roy O.Mead,Gilroy manager for the Pacific Gas and Zlectric Company and Mr. Bishop of the lighting departmen t of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The Clerk now calls for nominations for the position of r.'1ayor-Pro- tempore. Motion by Councilman Kennedy,seconded by Councilman Gallo and carried that Councilman Carl 1': .Pate beLMavor Pro-tempore. Mayor Mason now occupieshis seat as Mayor. ~~.Bishop of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company now appears before the Council at the invitation of Mayor Pro-tempore Pate to discuss the break-down of the proposed change-over in Monterey Street lighting from incandescent and ffiecntty vapor;the total cost-$11,189.68 less allowance for present OV-20 fixtures of $4,381.20 making a net total of $6,808.48", I Mr.Bishop also presents the total cost of the mercury vapor inst- allation plus the five additional electroliers ordered by the Council at $35,300.00 payable over a period of twenty-five years at the rate of $206.05 peri,month. Motion by Councilman G allo,seconded by Councilman Pate and carried that Monterey Street lighting be converted from incandescent to mercury vapor with a capital investment of $35,300.00 payable at the rate of ~J ~ 0-> Ji- cJ'OO approximately $206.05 per month for a period of twenty-five years. A communication is read from the I\~usic Instructor of the Gilroy High School requesting use of Vfheeler Auditorium for the annual variety show. Motion by Councilman Pate,seconc1ed by Councilman Kennedy and carried that the Gilroy High School variety sh~v be granted free use of Wheeler Auditorium for rehearsals on February 23rd and 24th thet.. afternoon of February 26th and the evening of February 26th for the show.
