This special executive meeting of the Council is called to or-
der by His Honor Sig Sanchez.
Present: Council Members: Wilford E. Jordan, Carl W. Pate,
Courtland M. Rush, Everett C. Wentworth, and Sig Sanchez.
Absent: Council Members: Norman B. Goodrich and Kenneth L.
Petersen.
The Mayor states that the purpose of this meeting is for the
adoption of a resolution to be presented at the Public Hearing in
Morgan Hill before the Division of Highways to convey the City of
Gilroy'S thinking on the proposed freeway routes.
A letter is read from the Chamber of Commerce stating that at
a recent meeting they had endorsed Route G as the best route for the
proposed freeway as submitted on the plan presented by the Division
of Highways, and urged that the freeway be constructed as soon as
possible.
A letter is read from the Planning Commission recommending
Route "G" for the proposed freeway as the most acceptable to the
City of Gilroy and citing reasons for this recommendation.
City Administrator Carr presents and reads Resolution No. 579.
Motion by Councilman Jordan second by Councilman Pate that Resolu-
tion No. 579 be adopted.

RESOLUTION No. 579
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY STATING PRE-
FERENCE FOR ROUTE "G" (CENTRAL VALLEY ROUTE) FOR THE PROPOSED FREE-
WAY THROUGH THE GILROY AREA.
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: Jordan,Pate,Rush,Wentworth.Sanche?.
NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS: None
ABSENT:COUNCIL MEMBERS: Goodrich,Petersen
The Mayor reports that he attended a Farm Bureau meetin~. At
this meeting the Farm Bureau stated that they 111/ill endorse the
proposed freeway route "G" and requested that the Council present
reasons to the Division of Highways, why the freeway should be
constructed as soon as possible.
Discussion is had on the matter.
Motion by Councilman Pate second by Councilman Jordan and
carried that City Administrator Carr be authorized to prepare a
letter to the Division of Highway Commission in San Francisco in-
forming them of the important reasons why the freeway should be
constructed immediately, and that a copy of the letter be submit-
ted at the Public Hearing in Mgrgan Hill on July 14, 1960.
Discussion is had on the proposed County building. The Mayor
states if the City does not hear from the Board of Supervisors by
Monday that they should be notified to inform the City when this
matter will be brought up again.
The Mayor declares this Council meeting adjourned.
