Dear Mr. Gonzalez:
Thank you for the opportunity to conduct a training workshop for your management team on
work planning in March. We understand you have an interest in creating a consistent format for
departmental and project work plans and ensuring your team has the knowledge of how to
complete those plans. Rod Gould and Jan Perkins will serve as trainers for the workshop.
As you know, Management Partners is a professional management consulting firm specializing
in helping local government leaders. The firm is staffed with 80 professionals who are
experienced public service managers as well as qualified management consultants. Our
consultants carry out a full range of projects for local government leaders including
teambuilding, strategic planning, organization reviews, executive coaching, performance
management, and development process reviews. Each assignment we undertake receives
careful, professional attention and we take pride in the quality of our work.
Approach
The half -day workshop will be held on March 28, 2018. To make the best use of staffs' time
during the workshop, careful advance planning will be done. The following describes the plan
of work anticipated for the engagement.
Activity 1— Prepare for Workshop
Preparation will involve several steps, as described below, building on the initial discussion
Rod Gould had with you about the workshop.
1. Review background materials. We will review the existing department work plans,
along with other materials to understand what work planning efforts staff members are
currently doing.

2. Meet with executive team. Rod will meet with you and your executive team on February
16 to learn more about interests and objectives for the work plan training. We
understand you are interested in a consistent template for all department heads to use
and a reporting process that will enable the Council to clearly understand what is
planned as well as what is accomplished. We also understand that you may have some
interest in developing work plans at the project level. During the February 16 meeting,
Rod will ask questions to learn what is working well now and what needs to be
improved, along with any work plan models that staff thinks are particularly useful.
3. Prepare training agenda and materials. We will develop work plan templates along
with training materials. These materials will include a workbook and PowerPoint. We
