Subject:EXTERNAL - City Council meeting of June 6, 2022
Date:Tuesday, July 5, 2022 12:36:35 PM
Attending this meeting brought me back to the 70's, but not in a good way.
As I sat there listening to the discussion about hiring Sharon Goei to the position of Community
Development Director, it was agreed that this individual exceeded the necessary job requirements. For
her place of residency, should she be hired, become a talking point which rambled on for about 5
minutes, until staff reminded city council that half of our employees do not reside in Gilroy. I hate to think
what would have happened if she was not hired because of residency status? A discrimination suit,
perhaps. This discussion went so far as to state that she should not only rent here, but should purchase
a home to show her commitment in our community.
I believe it is time to discuss term limits of our city council members, these are clearly out of date
mindsets. When discussing new hires we are reminded that the city is liable for hires Cal Pers, unfunded
liability, medical benefits, etc. I believe city council members, also, partake of these benefits. We
residents deserve the best representatives on our city council.
