Agenda Item # 11.4 - Hazel Quintero | Received 08/15/2022From: To: City Clerk MEP Subject: EXTERNAL - Public Comment from Hazel Quintero Date: Monday, August 15, 2022 4:01:48 PM ICAUTION: This email originated from an External Source. Please use proper judgment and caution when opening attachments, clicking links, or responding to this email. Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers, My name is Hazel Quintero. I am 15 years old and I go to Gilroy High School. I am also with the CARAS Youth Leadership Council. Our Youth Leadership Council believes in the rights of indigenous people and environmental justice. This is very important for us because the Earth is going through global climate change and as young people we want to be able to live and breathe healthy air, and see beautiful places. We want this for the next generations too not just for ourselves. The native people like the Amah Mutsun Ohlone had respect for the land and their sacred site for ceremony deserves to be respected and honored. We wouldn't blow up a temple or a church or a mosque, or a cemetery of another religion, would we? Why is it ok to do this to the indigenous people? Their religion and beliefs are just as sacred as ours or anyone else's. Maybe sand is important to construction but sand can come from anywhere, especially the different places in California. We don't need more dangerous trucks loaded with sand on the road either. So we ask you to please pass a resolution to protect Juristac. It will be for the good of all of us and our future generations. Thank you very much!
