Subject:EXTERNAL - Agenda item 11.4. Consideration of Formal Council Position On the Proposed Sargent Ranch Quarry
Project in South Santa Clara County
Date:Monday, August 15, 2022 5:20:20 PM
To the Gilroy City Council:
As our neighboring cities have done, I am asking the Council to adopt a resolution in support
of keeping Sargent Ranch (Juristac) as open space and not granting a conditional use permit
for the gravel quarry.
This project would cause permanent damage to a site that is held as sacred by the Amah
Mutsun tribe. It would also negatively impact every resident of Gilroy with air, noise, and
traffic impacts that could not be mitigated.
Although I don't oppose development in all cases, I do in this one. It will not be in the best
interest of our community to develop the proposed gravel quarry.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jan Bernstein Chargin
