Subject: September 12th Public comments for item #11.1
I’m writing to contribute public support for the proposed downhill bike park planned for the city of Gilroy.
This would be an amazing opportunity to provide a place that would attract mountain bikers from
Monterey, Santa Cruz, Bay area counties. I personally know upwards of 20-30 mountain bikers in Salinas
who would buy season passes and regularly travel to Gilroy to use the park. The only option currently is
for mountain bikers to drive 5+ hrs to the Sierra’s or ride illegal trails in the Santa Cruz mountains if they
want to ride downhill focused trails.
Mountain biking has never been as popular as it is right now and there is a huge need for recreational
opportunities that provide a fun and legal way to enjoy the sport. The great part about mountain bike
parks is that they usually include trails for all skill levels and can provide recreation for families, high
school teams, beginners and all the way to advanced or professional riders.
