From:Leslie Chow To:City Clerk; All Council Members Cc:Leslie Chow Subject:EXTERNAL - Letter in strong support of the Select Contracts Gilroy Adventure Park proposal Date:Monday, September 12, 2022 8:27:36 PM To the City Clerk and Council Members of the City of Gilroy: I strongly urge you to support and approve the Select Contracts proposal for an Adventure Park in Gilroy. I’m an avid mountain biker and outdoor enthusiast who is also female senior citizen (66 years young!) On a personal level I and my friends would love such a facility, which would be the only such park within day-trip distance of us here in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. In addition to being a positive recreational resource for people of all ages, skill, fitness and economic levels that bike, hike, and enjoy the outdoors. The park will provide a financial benefit and positive image of our local community as well as attract tourism and new businesses to Gilroy throughout the year. “The inclusion of a full-scale lift accessed downhill bike park within day-trip of the Bay area and weekend trip distance for much of the central California coastline is totally unique and compelling as its own offering,” said Select Contracts in their proposal. The park would be an amazing resource for local high school mountain bike teams, mountain bike enthusiasts, new riders, hikers, and those who enjoy emerging trends in recreation. There is not another project like this in the region. Gilroy is a Bicycle Friendly Community, and the Adventure Park supports the 2018 Tourism in the Hecker Pass Corridor Resolution, and the 2020 Recreation Destination Community Resolution. We are actively embracing, advancing ideas, and projects that promote the concept of free-range people in the City of Gilroy. Thank you for your consideration best regards, Leslie Chow Aptos, CA
