Agenda Item # 3.1 - Jacqueline Castillo | Received 11/07/2022Good evening city council since I only have one minute I'll try and make this fast. I actually visited the so-called Youth Center In Gilroy to see if I could do my homework at a place other than home and work and when I got to the San Ysidro center I asked my friend, “Where is the youth center at?” I guess I was standing right of what is called the Gilroy youth center that looked like a public bathroom that I couldn't even use because it was closed. All I and the youth of Gilroy ask is if we can get an actual Youth Center. A Youth center that is open almost at all hours of the day. A youth center that looks like a youth center with a study room, a gym, a library, pool, computer lab. A youth center that is much bigger than 800 sq ft. A youth center that actually has youth events hosted. In Octobre San Ysidro has hosted 1. PARENTS HELPING PARENTS 2. COVID CENTER 3. COMMUNITY EVENTS (INCLUDING ALTARES & CELEBRATION OF DIA DE LOS MUERTOS), 4. PAINTING WORKSHOPS (COMMUNITY EVENT) 5. CANDIDATES FORUM 6. FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS All great advocacy for the community however, none for Youth. I mean I will point out something positive at least it has a field and basketball court like any other park.
