Agenda Item # 9.3 - Rodney Pickett | Received 11/22/2022 1
Good evening,
My name is Rodney Pickett. I liv e at 712 Antonio Court. I want to start by
thanking everyone who took the time to see the Royal Way Townhome
project from our perspective. When I moved into our home, there was a
home right behind me and a huge water tank. Who imagines a home on the
side of you or behind you to be removed?
As I said at the planning meeting, I’m in construction. My home is where I
come to have peace and relax. I love to BBQ outside. Our home extends to
the outside from the family room and kitchen. I have to leave early, when it is
dark, and travel for work. My role, as a man, is to provide and protect my
family. Obviously, I am very uncomfortable to have over 20 windows with
strangers who can look in as my wife is in the kitchen or observe into my
family room as my daughter and granddaughter are playing or peer into the
two children bedrooms along the back of the house . It would be imposs ible
to not open the sliding door or bedroom windows because ventilation is
essential.
To offset the tremendous safety and privacy concerns I foresee as ongoing
forever forward, the developers have made us a side deal of erecting a
structure across the entire length of the back of our home. In my union, we
have a brotherhood. We look out for each other and our word is our bond.
I am trusting the developers to hold true to their word.
With that said, I will support the project based on the side offer and hoping
the city will apply the following conditions:
• An 8 foot, extremely durable, fully treated fence with 6 by 6 posts.
• 24” box trees placed in front of all the two -story windows, where possible.
Perhaps, during construction, there could be a much taller temporary wall,
like what was used behind Renee’s property to help us and our dogs cope for
the couple of years it could take to be fully built.
Thank you!
