IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Camille McCormack motioned to approve the minutes.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lisa Carter. Motion passed 4-0.
V. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Commissioner Carter motioned to approve the agenda. Motion was
seconded by Commissioner Alexandra Perdew. Motion passed 4 -0.

VIII. NEW BUSINESS

A. Approve Public Art Proposal at Tenth and Chestnut and Forward
Recommendation to City Council
The Commission was asked to forward a recommendation to the City
Council for approval of a public art sculpture at the corner of Tenth and
Chestnut. Public Art piece is a kinetic sculpture of a Garlic Bulb and cloves
floating around it. Artists are Jonathan and Saori Russel of Ride Art Studio.
Their intent was to keep the theme local to the City and garlic is a well-
known representative of Gilroy nationwide. Sculpture will be 22 feet high
and it will have a lighting feature at night.
Motion was made by Chair Reynisson to approve the Public A rt Proposal
and forward recommendation to City Council. Motion was seconded by
Commissioner McCormack. Motion passed 4-0.
B. Award the Arts & Culture Commission Community Engagement Grant
for 2022

Motion was made by Chair Reynisson to award the Community
Engagement Grant to M.A.N.O.S for their proposed Gilroy Chalk Festival.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Carter. Motion passed 4-0.
M.A.N.O.S accepted the award and gave a brief overview of their vision to
the Commission. The event is still in the planning phase, but it is expected
to be held in Downtown Gilroy on September 24, 2022. Grant of $2,500 will
be made on a reimbursement basis only after appropriate back -up
documentation has been submitted to the City.
This is the first year of this grant and there were five applicants. Rating table
is below.
C. Authorize Use of Arts & Culture Commission Donations for ACC Booth
at Downtown Summer Events

Commissioners discussed the possibility of participating in Downtown
events as part of their Workplan for 2022. Commissioners discussed the
use of the Arts & Culture Commission Donations fund, if need be, to
participate at these events. Possible expenses would include supplies for
any arts/culture related activities or fees for booth/table space.
Commissioners decided on participating in two of the Friday Art Walks by 6th
Street Gallery (June 17th and July 15th) and two of the Downtown Live Music
Series (July 14th and August 4th).
Motion was made by Chair Reynisson to authorize use of Arts & Culture
Commission Donations Fund for ACC booth at Downtown summer events.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Carter. Motion passed 4-0.

A. Selection of Vice-Chair of Arts and Culture Commission

Motion and vote for the selection of Vice-chair of Arts and Culture
Commission for Calendar Year 2022
Motion was made by Commissioner McCormack to select Alexandra
Perdew to be the Vice-Chair for the Arts & Culture Commission for the
Calendar Year 2022. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Carter.
Motion passed 4-0.
B. Review and Update Ongoing 2022 Arts and Culture Commission Work

Review and Update Ongoing 2022 Arts and Culture Commission
Work Plan
Commission reviewed their 2022 Workplan and updated as follows:
• Added a deliverable to the Fundraising Goal of raising $5,000 -$10,000 this year.
• Updated their Arts & Culture Events in Downtown Goal by reporting that they
assisted with the High School Aged Art Show held on May 20, 2022 in coordination
with 6th Street Gallery.
• Updated workplan with completion of Community Engagement Award to
M.A.N.O.S at tonight’s meeting.
