II. SECRETARY'S REPORT Agenda was posted on September 3, 2021.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Motion was passed by Vice Chair Baxter to
approve the minutes. Chair Robinson seconded. Motion passed 4-0-0.
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA - Motion was passed by Robinson to approve the
minutes. Commissioner Reddy seconded. Motion passed 4 -0-0.
V. INTRODUCTIONS
A. Gabriela Kim – Kim introduced herself to the commissioner, who also
introduced themselves.
VI. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA – none.

IX. LIBRARY REPORTS
A. 3436 : County Library Reports for July, August and September 2021
(attached) - Santa Clara County Librarian Jenifer Weeks discussed the
following in her report: staff member receiving national Bookmobile award
for her efforts; the return of in-person homework assistance; the start of
Hispanic Awareness Month; and the recent rollout of digitized local
newspapers.

B. 3437 : Gilroy Library Report for June - August 2021 (report attached) -
Community Librarian Cassandra Wong discussed the following topics: new
book selection for the library book club; shared the current hours of
operation and explained why they can’t be expanded—due to staff shortage.
Throughout the District, library staff have been reassigned as disaster relief
workers to assist with he Covid-19 efforts; and shared data about the library
usage among residents. Numbers show it is increasing.
X. COMMISSION COMMENTS – Reddy asked about the data behind the contrast
between ebooks and physical books. Wong said that the library saw an increase in
ebook usage during the pandemic. Baxter wanted to know if there were mobile
services for seniors. Wong mentioned Bookdash, where seniors are able to receive
books that dropped off at their doorstep. Reddy asked commissioners to join the
Gilroy Friends of Library. Weeks mentioned that the Library will be discussing with
staff and, soon, the general public, about the District’s five year strategic plan.
XI. STAFF COMMENTS – Henig mentioned next meeting date.
XII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS – Adoption of 2022 calendar
XIII. ADJOURNMENT – Reddy motioned to adjourn the meeting. Baxter seconded.
