CALL TO ORDER – 6:05 p.m. II. SECRETARY'S REPORT – The Parks and Recreation Commission agenda was posted online on and posted in the City Hall kiosk on November 12, 2021. III. FLAG SALUTE V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Parks and Recreation Commission - Regular Meeting - Sep 21, 2021 6:00 PM - Commissioner Bentson motioned to approve. Commissioner Miller seconded. Motion passed 7-0-0. VI. APPROVAL OF AGENDA - Commissioner Reinert motioned to approve. Commissioner Bentson seconded. Motion passed 7-0-0. VII. INTRODUCTIONS - none VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA – Bruce Serpa requested to add the following item on a future agenda—add pickleball lines to Las Animas Veterans Tennis Court 5 and 6. Serpa provided the commission with the background usage of pickleball played at these courts. Commissioner Miller Page 2 of 3 motioned to add the item to a future meeting agenda. Graham seconded. Motion passed 5-2-0 (Bentson and Puente dissented). IX. NEW BUSINESS – The commission discussed which dates they planned to meet in 2022. It was recommended that the Commission hold 10 meetings, including a retreat, which is scheduled for February 5, 2022 (includes meeting option too). The commission would not meet August 16 and December 20. Note the mistake on the January meeting date listed in the staff report (should have been 1/18, not 1/17). Graham motioned. Wexler second. Motion passed 7 -0-0. X. OLD BUSINESS A. Review of 2021 Parks and Recreation Commission Work Plan – The following topics were discussed: The park supervisor would seek input from commissioner on the future locations of Arbor Day; the extension of the mile marker should be added to the 2022 retreat agenda; staff and commissioners met with County and Our City Forest and progress was made. The program needs to be publicized in the city newsletter and activity guide; Friends of Parks & Rec want to renew membership for National Association of Parks Foundation. They are still waiting to receive 501c3 status. Currently, working on a logo and brand. XI. DEPARTMENT UPDATES A. Recreation Division Updates Henig reviewed the report. B. Status of City Parks (report attached) Headley reviewed the report. XII. COMMISSIONER PARK REPORTS & COMMENTS Park Assignments o Commissioner Bentson (Cydney Casper, Christmas Hill) – Casper needs more trees. Tables need to be cleaned. Las Madres organized clean-up event at Christmas Hill recently. o Vice Chair Graham – (Farrell Avenue, Gateway, Hecker Pass, Los Arroyos, Rainbow) – Everything looks fine. o Commissioner Miller – (Uvas Levee, El Roble) – New signage needed at El Roble. Noticed water pressure is low from fountain at Christmas Hill. o Commissioner Puente – (Butcher, Forest Street, Renz, San Ysidro) – All of the parks look good. Renz street frontage need attention (uneven pavement). o Commissioner Reinert – (Gilroy Sports Park, Village Green) – no update o Commissioner Pineda – (Las Animas, Miller) – no update o Chair Wexler (Carriage Hills, Del Rey, Sunrise) – saw graffiti at Del Rey and Sunrise.
