A. Parks and Recreation Commission - Regular Meeting - Jun 21, 2022
6:00 PM - Commissioner Reinert motioned to approve. Commissioner
Bentson seconded. Motion passed 5-0-0.
VI. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Bentson motioned to approve. Reinert seconded.

IX. NEW BUSINESS - none
X. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review and Modify 2022 Parks and Recreation Commission Work Plan

– Staff will have an update on Arbor Day at the next meeting.
- Bentson informed the commission that the annual CPRS conference will be in
Long Beach in March 2023.
- Commissioners Arredondo and Reinert tabled at Downtown Live on July 7
Graham and Bentson will do the same on July 28.
Commissioner Bentson motioned to add VTA Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian
Education and Encouragement Fund to the 2022 work plan and remove t he “User Group
Needs,” which will be tabled for a future work plan. Reinert seconded. Motion passed 5 -0-
0. Measure B funded project ideas include finding out if the following are eligible for
reimbursements: new safety signage along the levee; mile markers; and a fix-it-station.
Henig will look into the status of the data systems that were proposed for FY22.
XI. DEPARTMENT UPDATES
A. Recreation Staff Report Henig reported on the Recreation Division. See
staff report.
XII. COMMISSIONER PARK REPORTS & COMMENTS
Park Assignments
o Chair Graham - El Roble looks good; At LAVP noticed dry patches in grass
and there is weeding on Kern along the storm drain.
o Vice Chair Bentson – At Cydney Casper, hop scotch lines are fading;
noticed that Christmas Hill was unlocked at 10:53 pm. No one was at
Rainbow during a hot summer afternoon (like due to a lack of shade).
o Commissioner Arredondo - absent
o Commissioner Patterson – parks look good and well maintained (Sunrise,
Carriage, Del Rey)
• Commissioner Puente – Forest: needs more watering; Miller: Tree limb is
hanging along branches on Carmel side; Dogs off leash; needs more
doggy bags; there are trees close to electrical wire; uneven pavement on
Carmel and Princevalle; Renz: there’s a crack in a 1 inch drip hose, leaking
water; San Ysidro – 2 water fountains not properly working; beam by the
building is rotten
o Commissioner Reinert – pleased to see families enjoying watching
fireworks at sports park parking lot.
XIII. BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN ENCOURAGEMENT & EDUCATION UPDATE –
will be removed since it is now part of the work plan.
XIV. STAFF COMMENTS – reminder about the staff appreciation breakfast and no
meeting in August
