The Gilroy City Council made the correct decision to deny OutFront Media their request to install hazardous and discriminatory LED billboards. These billboard companies will be relentless in their pursuit of installing electronic advertising everywhere, so Gilroy must strengthen their light pollution and civil rights regulations. Here is an example of a billboard that was installed in Ontario, Canada that has citizens being blinded and assaulted by LED visible radiation. https://london.ctvnews.ca/bright-billboards-causing-driver-headaches-and-safety-concerns- 1.6322730 Thankfully, Gilroy avoided this mistake. The installation and operation of LED digital billboards have no legal authority because the FDA has not yet published the necessary performance standards for LED billboards. If this issue arises again in the future, Gilroy can immediately deny the request because they lack FDA approval. LED billboards trigger life-threatening photosensitive seizures for certain individuals. No amount of money can bring back a lost life.
