YOUTH COMMISION MEETING
6:00 P.M.
Monday, February 11, 2013
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Chair Triolo
INTRODUCTIONS
New Youth Commissioner Alondra Navarro, a junior at GECA, was introduced by Recreation
Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki.
ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT
All Commissioners were present except Commissioners Filice and Medina who were absent.
Others present were Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki and Recreation Specialist
Julian Mireles.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Cabatingan motioned to approve the minutes and Commissioner Kang
seconded the motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Commissioner Baxter motioned to approve the agenda and Commissioner Miner seconded
the motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Commissioner Kang provided a report on the February 6, 2013 Gilroy Gang Task Force meeting.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Continued Discussion on Fundraising Efforts
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki continued discussion on fundraising. She
thanked Commissioner Cabatingan for her fundraising efforts and went over the
individual costs of putting together the Senior Ball. The discussion was concluded with
ideas to continue fundraising efforts such as putting together a photo booth.
B. Continued Planning for Senior Ball on Saturday, April 6, 2013
Recreation Coordinator/ Advisor Anna Bielecki mentioned that tickets for the Senior Ball
had gone on sale that morning. Ms. Bielecki advised that the food has been ordered, the
band has been booked, and that decorations are being ordered. It was decided that there
will be line dancing before dinner to provide entertainment. Decorations and attire to tie
in with the Casino Royale theme were also discussed. The Christopher High JV Boys
Volleyball team has agreed to volunteer. The discussion was concluded with the total
amount of money needed to put on the Senior Ball.
C. Continued Discussion & Planning for “Battle of the Arts” Event on May 18, 2013
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki opened the discussion by asking for a
volunteer to put together a flyer for the “Battle of the Arts” event. Commissioner Dorn
volunteered to have a finished flyer by the end of the week. The discussion was
concluded with mention of the official flyer, food permits, and audition dates.
D. Update on Calendar of Events
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki opened the discussion by reminding the
Commission about the upcoming “Kids Discover Arts” event. The Commission will be
running the concession stand as a fundraising opportunity. Food choices for the
concession stand were discussed. Ms. Bielecki also mentioned the “Open Government
Ordinance Training” which needs to be completed by all the Youth Commissioners and
the “Teen Leadership Academy”. Commissioners were urged to confirm whether they
could attend or not. Subcommittees for the “Battle of the Arts” event were formed and
are food, stage/MC, and art. The discussion was concluded with a decision to have a
work meeting.
Motion was made by Chair Triolo to have a Youth Commission work meeting on
Thursday, March 7, 2013 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Gilroy Youth Center. The
motion was seconded by Vice Chair Cabatingan.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
NEW BUSINESS
None.
AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
Discussion for fundraising efforts will continue and a new committee representative for GUSD
will be chosen.
STAFF COMMENTS
Recreation Coordinator/Advisor Anna Bielecki mentioned activities sponsored by the City of
Morgan Hill Youth Advisory Council as inspiration for the Gilroy Youth Commission.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Triolo adjourned the meeting at 6:58 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Youth Commission will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013 at
6:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.
