MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
ARTS AND CULTURE COMMISSION
5:30 P.M.
July 8, 2014
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m. by Chair Scariot.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
All Commissioners were present except Commissioner Brooner who was absent and Vice Chair
Robinson who was excused. Christopher High School Student Representative Silva was also
excused.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Commissioner Bottini to approve the minutes of the June 10, 2014
regular meeting. Commissioner Morasca seconded the motion.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Morasca to approve the agenda for July 8, 2014. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Wang.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.

OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion on Arts & Culture Commission Fundraising (Fireworks Booth)
Chair Scariot stated that the Fireworks Booth was the easiest fundraiser she has ever
participated in. The other Commissioners agreed. The Commission thanked Recreation
Coordinator Cathy Mirelez for giving them the opportunity to raise funds.
B. Nominees for Art & Business Partnership Awards — Large Business & Small
Business
Chair Scariot informed the Commission that Cathy Mirelez will supply the businesses
and dollar amounts they have donated to City arts projects/special events at the
September 9, 2014 meeting.
C. Update on Designs for the Arts Branding Logo
Chair Scariot reported that the Committee presented to Articulate Solutions the choices
that each group voted on. They discussed having each group have different colored t-
shirts (to identify the group) but the same logo indicating the Arts. Articulate Solutions
will be putting together the "finals" for the next committee meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Interviewing of Public Art Committee Applicants
No applicants; therefore no interviews. Chair Scariot suggested that Commissioner
Morasca contact Northern California Art Fusion (Marianne Eichenbaum) to see if anyone
was interested in serving on the Public Art Committee.
B. Arts & Culture Commission going "DARK" for August 2014
Chair Scariot asked the Commissioners how they felt about going dark for the month of
August. She stated that the Commission had nothing pressing going on right now.
Motion made by Chair Scariot that the ACC go dark for the month of August. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Morasca.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
C. Letter of Support to Mayor Don Gage
Chair Scariot stated that she felt the Commission should write a letter of support to
Mayor Gage stating that they support his efforts for the bond measure.
Motion was made by Commissioner Morasca that the Arts & Culture Commission
send a letter of support to Mayor Don Gage. The motion was seconded by
Commissioner Bottini.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
Chair Scariot and Commissioner Bottini will work on the letter together.
PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE UPDATE
Commissioner Morasca reported the following from the June 25th Public Art Committee
meeting:
➢ Mayor Gage addressed the Committee
➢ Call to Artist packet for the Library Mural project went to Council on June 16th and was
approved. The packet was to be sent out by staff. The list of muralists was obtained
from Gilroy Arts Alliance resources and City staff s resources. There were also two (2)
names that were sent in by former Public Art Committee members.
PASEO PROJECT UPDATE
Chair Scariot reported that they have the design for the 1st panel. They will be bringing it to
PAC and the ACC. Maria De Leon informed the Commission that she already requested
information from Joan Buchanan in preparation for the staff report to City Council. The Pasco is
now open and is beautiful at night with the lights on.
GENERAL PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE UPDATE
See attached report.
GILROY ARTS ALLIANCE UPDATE
Commissioner Morasca reported the following:
➢ Summer Art Program is in full swing — June thru August — Rick Charvet, 152
Productions, Star Arts Education Program.
➢ Youth classes are all free.
STAFF REPORT
Maria De Leon reported:
A. Cultural Arts Programs/Events
➢ Disney Spectacular theater production this weekend directed by John Bisceglie, at
Christmas Hill Amphitheater Friday, Julyl lth. There will also be 3 performances
on Saturday, July 12th due to the large number of participants who signed up.
➢ Party in the Park at San Ysidro Friday, July 11th
➢ Kids Triathlon Saturday, July 12th
➢ 5a' Street Live Friday, July l lth 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
B. Museum Projects/Tours/Displays
None.

Chair Scariot adjourned the meeting at 5:59 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Arts & Culture Commission will be held on Tuesday,
September, 9, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers located at 7351 Rosanna Street,
Gilroy, CA 95020.
