June 13, 2017 DRAFT CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Arts and Culture Commission was called to er by Chair Mattie Scariot at 5:38 p.m. FLAG SALUTE SECRETARY'S REPORT The Agenda was posted in the public notice cabinet at 3:15 p.m. on Thursda e 8, 2017. The Agenda for the June meeting and the draft of the minutes from the May Meet as posted to the City's website Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 3:15 p.m. and distributed Heni on Thursday, I June 8, 2017 at 4:52 p.m. ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Chair Scariot, Vice Chair Barbara Bottii Hernandez and Commissioner Suzanne Commissioners Absent: Commissioner Sally Armendariz - excu Commissioner Bruce Morasca - excuse( Miguel, Commissioner Grace Also PrenjOWWRIBLDirector Maria De Leon, Recreation Manager Adam Henig Motion ade by Bottin d seconded by Scariot to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of 2017 with e amendment on page 5 with a vote of 5-0-0. Motion was made b i to approve the agenda as written and the motion was seconded by Scariot and the motio arried by a vote of 5-0-0. Jacob Yoder Schrock introduced Shelby Shutt, who will be taking over as student representative from Christopher High School. AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS Scariot presented Schrock with the June Monthly Art Award. Scariot reported that Schrock did an excellent job as the student representative to the Arts and Culture Commission. Schrock is graduating from Christopher High School and will be attending Yale in the fall. Schrock will be studying theatre and hopes to become a director. Schrock thanked the Commission for the opportunity to be the student representative from Christopher High School. PUBLIC COMMENT None. OLD BUSINESS Monthly Arts Award - Chair Mattie Scariot Scariot reminded the commissioners that the commission at the July meeting they would be selecting someone fort De Leon reminded the Commissioners that they sti ave not nominations for the monthly art award. A dark in August and suggested that onthly Art Award for September. a process for selecting ng to have a process for Arts and Culture Commission Roundtable Forum 2017 Scariot wants to move forward with holding a;Roundtable NPIC of facilities that support the arts in Gilroy. De Leon told the commission that the council has approved a one time funding of $35,000 for the Gilroy arts center. npacillty ould make it possible for improvements on the inside of the building to increase te building but not to increase the "foot print". Bottini asked who will be i Scariot stated that theatre groups, the high schools, Gavilan College, Kat th, Donn ay, The District, the chamber of commerce and other groups that support the arts. person or group who want to speak at the roundtable will be asked to bring info on their facih end result would be a document that provides a listing of all of this information. De Leon suggested that the Commission select a subcommittee to work on the roundtable. Scariot stated that the subcommittee will consist of Hernandez, Miguel, and Scariot. The subcommittee will report back to the Commission at the July meeting. Bottini moved to schedule the roundtable to explore, discuss and list venues for art activities and art events in Gilroy. The motion was seconded by Scariot and passed with a vote of 5-0-0. Summer Movie Ninht Financial Sponsorship Heath has withdrawn his request for financial support from the commission. Heath told Scariot that he will get sponsors and grants to sponsor the movie nights. However, Heath is asking the Commissioners to work at the events. Scariot will put together a short "film" showing all of the logos of the sponsors as a thank you. Scariot report that Miguel volunteered to work on some kind of art or craft project for the children attending the movie nights. Scariot also told the Commission that there will snacks sold at the movie nights. Scariot stated that she will talk to Morasca about inviting the Public Art Committee to get involve and support the movie nights. NEW BUSINESS Fireworks booth Annual Fundraiser This money could be used to support the movie nights. Henig asked for volunteers to man the fireworks booth. Bottini and Hernandez took the first shift on Saturday July 1, 2017. Scariot will fill the other two shifts on Saturday. PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE (PAC) — Commissioner Bruce Morasca Morasca is absent. In the the dra students will be doing an improvisation work shop for children. for allowing him to be the student representative from Gilroy Early Colleee Academy (GECA) Student Representative Renort Absent. COMMISSION COMMENTS (Arts -Related) Scariot told the commission that leadership Gilroy is trying to get a mural completed. This has to be on the agenda for a joint meeting between ACC and PAC on Wednesday, June 28 at 5:30 special meeting before this project goes to City Council. Bottini, Miguel, Scariot and Wood will attend. De Leon and Henig will talk to PAC and try to make this joint meeting happen in a timely fashion.
