CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Arts and Culture Commission was called to order by Vice Chair
Barbara Bottini at 5:34 p.m.

ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Vice Chair Barbara Bottini, Commissioner.Amanda Rudeen,
Commissioner Bruce Morasca, and Commissioner Sally Aimendariz.
Commissioners Absent: Chair Mattie Scariot (absent).

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Commissioner Bruce Morasea, seconded by Commissioner Amanda
Rudeen and carried with a vote to approve the minutes of April 10, 2018 with a vote of 4-0-
0.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion was made by Commissioner Bruce Morasea, seconded by Commissioner Amanda
Rudeen and carried with a vote to approve the Agenda with a vote of 4-0-0.
INTRODUCTIONS
None
PUBLIC COMMENT
Mark (no last name given), a campaign manager, spoke on the behalf of Dr. Robert Omelas who
is running for House of Representative for the 19`h Congressional District. Mark gave a brief
background on Ornelas, who is from the Cocopah tribe and a hip hop artist. He is seeking
support for Ornelas in his run for Congress.

OLD BUSINESS
Status Update: Commission Work Plan and Strategic Plan
Commissioner Armendariz suggested local artist Moya to apply to become a Arts and Culture
Commissioner. Henig will reach out to him.
For the Work Plan, Arts Award section, Armendariz suggested looking at other organizations
besides the Chamber of Commerce in developing the art award. Commissioner Bruce Morasca
suggested that each subcommittee meet and work on their specific project toward the proposed
Work Plan. At the next meeting, each commissioner will bring their ideas to the meeting to
present and allow the commission to receive and comment. Henig follow up with Vice Chair
Barbara Bottini to schedule a meeting to discuss the annual art supporter award.
Selection of Chair to 2018 Arts and Culture Commission
Motion was made by Vice Chair Barbara Bottini, seconded by Commissioner Bruce
Morasca and carried with a vote to approve Commissioner Amanda Rudeen as the Chair
for the Arts and Culture Commission with a vote of 4-0-0.
PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE (PAC) UPDATE
Commissioner Morasca gave an update about the Garlic Festival Founders plaque, which will
incorporate the same colors that the event uses. Morasca also discussed the status of the PAC
Work Plan, which includes updating the public art policy, developing a catalog for future art
projects, and creating a portfolio of existing public art around the city -city owned and private
owned.
GILROY ARTS ALLIANCE UPDATE
May -September
• Current Exhibit through May 19:
o The contemporary art of local artist, and businesswoman, Katherine Filice. "The
Secrets We Keep."
• Next Exhibit run from May 29-June 30:
0 Quilt Exhibit
Limelight Performances:
o "Tenderly, the Rosemary Clooney Musical' Runs through May 19
o "The Last 5 Years" musical runs through June 29-July 21
Youth Art Programs:
o Summer of Art youth program will take place July 9-14, and include both an art
class and video class
Outdoor Family Movie Night
o June 15 and 22. Two other movie nights will be in August
GPAC UPDATE — Vice Chair Barbara Bottini
Vice Chair Barbara Bottini announced that the city council is directing their attention to other
matters that they feel need to be addressed prior to proceeding with GPAC. There are no future
meetings for GPAC until further notice.

COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Bruce Morasca is taking guitar lessons at the Gilroy Senior Center given by
Gordon Gibson. Morasca commended the work done at the Gilroy Senior Center.
Vice Chair Barbara Bottini gave a special thanks to Amanda Rudeen for stepping up to be the
Chair for ACC. Chair Rudeen announced that she has been appointed to the Open Government
Commission. She reported that Zachary Hilton is working on getting all commission meetings
televised and live streamed. Rudeen is reaching out to local high school students, in hopes that
she can get them involved in an arts project such as the painting of the utility boxes. Morasca
recommended Rudeen to talk to Rachael Munoz about possible left over funds from the previous
utility boxes that were painted.
Commissioner Sally Armendariz and CARAS are working on restoring the Aztec Calendar
mural on Monterey and 71h street. Armendariz also shared that they showed the Dolores Huerta
documentary at the Morgan Hill and Gilroy high schools.
