Senior Planner Kraig Tambornini introduced Artist Ben Trautman, who is the
creator of the proposed art sculptures at the recently constructed Hampton
Inn at Travel Park Circle.
There were two pieces presented. The first will be a one-sided sculpture of
garlic in yellow mounted on a blue background (symbolizing water) fa cing
Travel Park Circle. This piece will cover the water utility box and have an
LED lighting it up at night. The second proposed piece is a 20 -foot tall
sculpture of a blue garlic plant and will be placed on the front of the Inn
facing Monterey Road.
Commissioner Fierro mentioned she has been to the site and agreed with
the proposed placement of the sculptures (Fierro is the commission’s liaison
to the Public Art Committee and had heard a similar presentation the
previous month).
Commissioner Sward asked how far the structures will be from one another.
Trautman stated they will be placed in separate areas-one on the side and
the other in front of the business, so they will not be seen together.
Motion was made by Commissioner Fierro to approve the sculptu res as
