CALL TO ORDER'
The regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by Chair Smith at
7: 00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street Gilroy, California.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
All Five commissioners were present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Spencer to approve the minutes of August 14, 2013.;
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Cooper.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Spencer to approve the agenda of September 11, 2013. ,
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Smith (Hugh).

Parks and Recreation Commissioner Julie Garcia attended the meeting to gather information
about the Library.

OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion of Donor Recognition for the New Library
This item will be discussed in greater detail when more information is available.
B. Discussion of Gilroy Library Commission Work Plan
This item will be tabled until more information is available from Lani Yoshunura.
County Librarian Nanev Howe
Election Updates: Measure A passed with 81.7% voting "yes" to extend the special tax at
existing rates for twenty years. The special tax currently accounts for 18% of all revenue,
which was $5.6 million this year. See attached Press Release.
The Return on Investment Study is now available. The study, which was funded-by the
Cupertino Library Foundation and conducted by Berk Consulting Company,, shows that the total
quantifiable value of Santa Clara County Library District services in fiscal year 2011 -12 was
between $83 and $171.8 million. This means that for every dollar spent by SCOLD, the
community receives $2.50 to $5.17 in direct benefits. k addition, the County Library District
provides many intangible benefits which cannot be quantified. An executive summary of the
report is now available.
Gilroy Community Library August 2013 Facility Status Report:
PENDING:
User Experience -- Way finding: Martinelli Environmental Graphics (the signage contractor)
has completed all punch list work: additional remaining modifications have been funded and are
currently being scheduled.
Lim: Lani has provided a list of lighting fixtures not working. Library Administration is
prioritizing work for vacant General Maintenance Mechanic (whom the Library is hoping to
provisionally hire immediately). To improve illumination at the Circulation Desk and adjacent.
areas, Library has funded $5,000 for a consultant and $10,000 for illumination.
Teen Furniture: Vandalized Furniture was removed. Replacement options are being reviewed.
Elevator: Maintenance contract is to be signed this week. The state has been notified for
annual re- inspection.
Windows /Doors: Broken window on the south side of the building was replaced on August 15,
2013. The subcontractor will come out this week to investigate and repair the Reading Room
door and leaking pneumatic door closers.
A/V: The warranties for the malfunctioning AN unit in the Community Room are being
investigated. The Library is checking with Nova Partners on the status of the Smart Board for
the Training Room.
COMPLETED:
1-1VAC: Everything is working. The warranty is extended through April 15, 2014.
Pigeon Mitigation: The City of Gilroy paid for mitigation of pigeon droppings and installation
of bird -proof netting on the Library roof. The contractor has come out twice for re- inspection
and minor corrections.
Locks: Staff was trained on how to unlock. family restrooms and patio doors during open hours.
BMS Traininn: Staff was trained on BMS. The Library signed the quarterly BMS maintenance
contract with Automated Control Engineers.
Wi -Fi: The Wi -Fi was upgraded.

Lani distributed a report and calendar,of events to the Commissioners. See attached report.
