A. Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan
Gilroy Police Department is having a Bicycle Rodeo on May 9 in the parking lot at the
Senior Center. The Library Commission may pursue a bicycle event similar to one
previously held at the Gilroy Library, possibly in the fall before school begins. Lam will
contact the previous organization and report back to the Commission.
County Librarian, Nancy Howe
Countdown — The non-resident library card fee will stop on July 1, 2015. The Library is
currently selling cards at a pro -rated cost through June 30, and will be closely monitoring
library usage to identify patterns and quickly respond.
New Deputy County Librarian — Chris Brown has been hired as the new Deputy County
Librarian, Community Library Development. His first day at Santa Clara County Library
District will be Monday, April 20. Chris is currently a Senior Community Library Manager at
Contra Costa County Library, where he has managed several branches and projects including
War Ink and the Discover and Go museum pass program. He started working for the Contra
Costa County Library in 2008 and has held several positions of increasing responsibility during
his tenure. Chris was a 2011 Eureka Fellow, and has been active in the California Library
Association. He has a passion for public libraries and building community relationships.
City Librarian, Lani Yoshimura
Lani distributed a report and Calendar of Events to the Commissioners. See attached reports.
Commissioner Taylor asked Lam if vandalism is still a problem at the Gilroy Library. Lani
replied that it has declined considerably, partially due to security guard presence and possibly
due to the fact that the newness of the building has worn off.
