OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan
Lani passed out information on a new bicycle "Fixit Station" at the Mountain View
Library and suggested installing one at the Gilroy Library (See attached information).
One of Mountain View's top priorities is to improve bicycle and pedestrian mobility,
and the Library received a grant to support this effort. Lam spoke with City Facilities
Superintendent Walter Dunckel, and he agreed to install it. She hopes that Gilroy can
also receive a grant or possibly get help from the "Friends of the Library."
Chair Hugh Smith questioned whether it might be a target for vandalism, and asked if
there would be good lighting. After considerable discussion, the Commission agreed
that the "Fixit Station" would be a good idea to support.
Chair Hugh Smith entertained a motion to purchase the bicycle repair station.
Motion made by Commissioner Smith (Carol) to purchase the repair station.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Taylor.
Motion passed unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Selection of Book Spine Titles for Library Mural Project

considerable discussion by the Commission.
County Librarian, Nancy Howe
The Santa Clara County Library District stopped charging non-residents for library cards, and
began offering free library cards to all on July 1, 2015. A total of 5,679 new cards were issued
to non-residents during the month of July. More detailed statistics will follow in next month's
report.
The Library went live with a new online catalog named Encore on June 3, 2015, but learned
through an online survey that the majority of patrons preferred the interface and functionality of
the former catalog called Bibliocommons. Also, some expected features in Encore did not
work. The Library values feedback from patrons, and will change back to Biblioconmions on
August 17, 2015
