LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Hugh Smith at 6:58 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
The Agenda for this meeting was posted on February 5, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.
Library Commissioners present were: Rashmi Beman, Patricia Cooper, Carol Smith & Hugh
Smith. Commissioner Joyce Taylor was excused.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Cooper to approve the minutes of January 14, 2015.
Motion passed unanimously 4-0 -1. Commissioner Taylor was absent.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Smith (Carol) to approve the agenda of February 11,
2015. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Cooper.
Motion passed unanimously 4-04: Commissioner Taylor was absent.
INTRODUCTIONS
Chair Smith introduced newly appointed Commissioner Rashmi Beman, and welcomed her to
the Library Commission. Commissioner Beman stated that she loves libraries, has used them
all her life and looks forward to learning a lot on the Library Commission-

OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan
This item was tabled until more information can be gathered.

American Library Association -2015 Conference — The premier annual conference for libraries,
which will be held in San Francisco from June 25 -30, 2615, offers a rare opportunity to explore
the world of libraries. Early bird registration rates continue until March 16. There are two
ways to attend: Full conference or Exhibits only. The full conference early bird fee for trustees
and supporters is $125. The full conference includes all programs, presentations and exhibits.
There will be a selection of hundreds of programs, author events, and roundtable meetings.
Discover what other libraries are doing and learn about the trends in the field. Over 750
exhibitors including publishers, research services, furniture vendors, and technology wares will
be on hand.. Registration information can be found athttp://alaacl5.ala.org/
JPA Board — The Joint Powers Authority Library Board held its first meeting of 2015 on
January 29. Actions included: The receipt of Five -Year Financial Forecast, Capital
Maintenance Plan update, Technology Plan update. All of these documents are located on the
Santa Clara County Library District's website. The JPA meeting calendar was adopted for 2015
with regular meetings on April 16, June 4, and October 29. These meetings will be held at 1:30
pm at the Services and Support Center, 1370 Dell Avenue, Campbell.
Ms. Frost thanked the Commissioners for attending the Forum on February 7, and informed the
Commissioners that she is in charge of the Library's 3 -years technology plan. Gilroy Library
will be getting a tech tool bar. Various devices are tethered to the bar, which enables librarians
to instruct patrons on their usage. The Library is also working with Teen Librarians to get kids
engaged in hands -on projects in a safe environment.

Lani distributed a report and Calendar of Events to the Commissioners. See attached reports.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
None.
STAFF COMMENTS
Recording Secretary Lynne Conrotto announced that a Payment Request has been submitted for
CPLA memberships for the Commissioners. Flyers for the Giants Trophy Tour on February
19"' were also distributed and discussed.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan will remain on the next agenda.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Hugh Smith adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
FUTURE MEETINGS
The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday,
March 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street,
Gilroy, CA.
