I. CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by Chair
Candice Whitney at 7:05 p.m.
II. SECRETARY'S REPORT
The packet was posted on the City website on Wednesday, April 4, 2019 at
8:40 a.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Candice Whitney, Vice-Chair Kathy Souza, Commissioner
Michaela Gonzalez, Commissioner Katherine Robinson, Commissioner
Sumana Reddy.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Commissioner Reddy; seconded by Commissioner
Gonzalez to approve the February 13, 2019 meeting minutes.
Motion carried with a vote of 5-0-0.
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Chair Whitney asked if there were any objections to moving New Business
to the beginning of Presentations. Hearing no objections, a motion was
made by Commissioner Robinson; seconded by Commissioner Gonzalez to
approve the April 10, 2019 agenda.
Motion carried with a vote of 5-0-0.
V. PRESENTATIONS
Deputy City Clerk Suzanne Guzzetta presented the Commissioners with a
recently created Handbook for Board, Commission and Committee
Members. She reviewed each page with the Commissioners, and thanked
them for serving on the Library Commission. She explained agenda posting
according to the Brown Act, which is 72 hours before a meeting. She also
stated that all communications need to be done through City-issued email,
because all information is public record.

Jennifer Weeks, Library Services Manager, re-introduced herself. She will
be giving the County Librarian Report for Nancy Howe.
VII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA
None.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS
A. Report on Library Improvements
The Library is checking to see if the fans have a reversal mode to cool down
several areas.
Plans have been submitted to the City for improvements to the Courtyard.
B. Discussion of Library Commission Goals
The Commission hopes to connect with GUSD Principals to inform students
of all Library services that are available.
Lani mentioned working with focus groups at the Youth Center and Late -
Night Gym. She said most of the kids have never been on field trips and
would love to go.
IX. NEW BUSINESS
A. Introduction of Budget Request Process for Fiscal Years 2020/2021
Finance Manager Bryce Atkins asked the Commission to discuss ideas for
budget requests. All ideas go to the Library Bond Committee, and then City
Council must approve them. Budget requests can be anything regarding a
permanent improvement to the building. Mr. Atkins will attend the May
Library Commission meeting to gather requests.

XI. COMMISSION COMMENTS
None.
XII. STAFF COMMENTS
A request was made by the Recording Secretary to submit all Agenda items
two Mondays before the Wednesday meeting due to reduced Staff hours.

XIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
School Board outreach planning discussion will be on future agenda.
XIV. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned by Chair Whitney at 8:14 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Library Commission will be held on
Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350
West Sixth Street, Gilroy, CA.
