PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
6:00 P.M.
Tuesday, May 15, 2012
CALL ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair
McHenry at 6:05 p.m, at City Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna Street, Gilroy, California.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
All Commissioners were present except Commissioner Enriquez who was excused.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Kloecker to approve the minutes of April 17, 2012. Motion
was seconded by Commissioner Scheel.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Vice Chair Berry to approve the agenda for May 15, 2012. Motion was
seconded by Commissioner Lehman.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.

PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Update on Great Garlic 5K FUNdraiser - October 27, 2012
Vice Chair Berry reported that Commissioner Lehman has contacted several businesses.
Pat De Leon has been hired to DJ at the event. "Everything is moving right along."
B. Update on Parks & Recreation Commission Agenda Packets
Maria De Leon reviewed the pick -up plan for the Commissioner's agenda packets. All
were in agreement except Commissioner Lehman who would like hers emailed.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Discussion Re: Commissioner's Personal Contact Information on City's Website
Chair McHenry explained to the Commission that if they wanted their email address
listed on the City's website so Gilroy citizens could contact them there was an
authorization form they needed to complete. Sondra Banks distributed them and all
Commissioners wanted their email addresses listed.
Ms. Banks will summit the authorizations to the City Clerk and have IT put the
information on the website as soon as possible.
PROGRAM UPDATES
Maria De Leon reminded the Commission that the GUSD did not accept the City's offer
to assist with the repair of the South Valley Middle School pool. So Aquatics
programming will be out of the Gilroy High School and Christopher High School pools.
There will be a "soft opening" Friday, May 18th for City employees and their families.
The grand opening will be on Saturday, May 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Questions followed.
Vice Chair Berry asked about an event at the Las Animas Dog Park this Saturday. Ms.
De Leon was not aware of the event (it is not a City event) but said she would try to find
out.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Bicycle Pedestrian Commission - Scheel
Commissioner Scheel reported that she was unable to attend the meeting.
Gang Task Force
None.
Public Art Committee
Commissioner Lehman reported that she was not able to attend. But she stated that the utility
boxes are now being painted.
Senior Center Advisory Board
Commissioner Kloecker stated the meeting for May is next Monday.
Youth Commission
Chair McHenry said that the May meeting was the last of the year. They recapped the Senior
Ball and discussed the upcoming dinner for the Senior Graduates on the Commission. They also
gave their annual presentation to the City Council on May 7th.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chair McHenry, Vice Chair Berry and Commissioner Scheel will be attending the Lions Creek
Trail opening if any other commissioners would like to go.
Vice Chair Berry reported that the Volunteer Reception and Senior Ball were great events. She

and her granddaughters cleaned Carriage Hill. Vice Chair Berry also reminded the Commission
that the Uvas Creek Clean -up will be this Saturday, May 19a` from 9:00 a.m, to Noon at
Christmas Hill Park.
Commissioner Scheel stated that the Senior Ball was a great evening. She thanked staff.
Although she was unable to attend the grand opening of the Library she toured the library after
with the City Librarian.
Commissioner Kloecker also attended the Senior Ball. He stated that the young men really
danced with the senior women and it was a wonderful event. He visited the new library also — "it
is awesome!"
Chair McHenry stated that the Library is a beautiful building and a great facility.
STAFF COMMENTS
Maria De Leon reported that staff is very busy with summer programming and the opening of the
CHS Aquatics Center. Recreation has hired more staff than ever before in Aquatics, so it is a
challenge but one that will be met.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair McHenry adjourned the meeting at 6:31 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be held on Tuesday, June
19, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna Street, Gilroy, CA.
