Tuesday, April 15, 2014 CALL ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair Lehman at, 6 :02 p.m. SECRETARY'S REPORT All Commissioners were present except Commissioners Enriquez and Puente who were both excused. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made by Commissioner Garcia to approve the minutes of March 2014, as corrected. Motion was seconded by Commissioner McHenry. • Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. APPROVAL OF AGENDA M_ otion made by Commissioner Scheel to approve the agenda for April 15, 2014. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Berry. Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. INTRODUCTIONS None. AWARDS/RECOGNMONS None. PUBLIC_.COMMENT None. . OLD BUSINESS A. Report on CTG Leadership Group No meeting this month They meet every other month. B. Cell Phone Usage during Parks & Recreation Commission Meetings Tabled until May meeting. C. Quarterly Report on Youth Scholarship Funds & Distribution (Apr, July, Oct, Jan) This report was given at the March meeting. NEW BUSINESS None. PROGRAM UPDATES Recreation (Recreation Supervisor Judy Mireles- Janisch): See attached report. Maria De Leon highlighted some of the information. Operations (David Stubchaer, Senior Engineer & Operations Manager): See attached report. Commissioner Scheel reported that the trash can by the ball field was full again. Mr. Stubchaer will let GUSD know. CONEMMEE REPORTS Bicycle_ Pedestrian _Commission Vice Chair Garcia reported that a flyer regarding new street lighting was distributed. Residents can go look at the lights (a map with locations is on the flyer) on the three (3) different streets and then go to an online survey to complete and share their preferences. Vice Chair Garcia said it was an interesting meeting. Commissioner Scheel reported that she was asked to help staff the May 8th Bike to Work booth at the Cal Trans train station. Gang Task Force None. GPAC Commissioner Scheel reported that the April meeting is on the 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room on the 2nd of the Library so she will give her report in May. Commissioner Scheel also reported that a staff member asked if she would meet with him privately to discuss some of his concerns regarding the GPAC issues and she wanted to know if this was all right. She was advised to wait until given direction from managing staff. LibraryCommission None. Youth Commission None. COMMISSION PARK REPORTS & COMMENTS' Commissioner McHenry reported that the redwood trees in the middle of the park look like they are 'dying. He played in the Texas Hold `Em poker tournament on April 12th. There were about 85 people and they had a great time. As always, Recreation Specialist Bob Burch did an excellent Job. Commissioner Berry reported that Sunrise, Carriage Hills, Los Arroyos and Del Rey Parks all look good. She also commended staff on a great looking Activity Guide. She stated that the 2 Recreation Department was packed on Monday with people signing up for programs. Commissioner. Puente called in and reported that San Ysidro Park looks good. Commissioner Scheel reported that everything is fine at Rainbow Park except the. unemptied trash can. STAFF COMMENTS Maria De Leon informed the Commission that the CHS Aquatics Center will open on Memorial Day weekend: It will only be open on weekends until June 21 at which time it will be open Tuesday through Sunday. The Gilroy Gardens water feature continues to move forward. Thanks to the good weather we've, been having, it should be ready for the summer season. The Gilroy Foundation Awards Ceremony will be held tomorrow, April 16th. She informed the Commission that Commissioner McHenry will represent the Recreation Department and accept two checks - one from the Gary Filice Memorial Fund for $1,200 and the other for $7,300 from the Sean Merriman Memorial Fund. David Stubchaer will be accepting a check for $650 for the Dog Park and the Senior Advisory Board President will be accepting a check for $450. The Gilroy Foundation was very generous to the Recreation Department and the Public Works - Operation Division. Maria. De Leon distributed the Annual Volunteer Reception flyer to all of the Commissioners and urged them to attend to honor their volunteerism to the City of Gilroy.
