PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING

CALL ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair
Garcia at 6:04 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
Commissioners present: Garcia, Lehman, McHenry, Puente and Scheel. Commissioners
Absent: Commissioners Almash was absent and Commissioner Berry was excused.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Puente to approve the minutes of November 17, 2015.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lehman.
Motion passed unanimously (5-0-2, Commissioners Almash and Berry were absent).
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner McHenry to approve the agenda for January 19, 2016.
Motion was seconded by Vice Chair Puente.
Motion passed unanimously (5-0-2, Commissioners Almash and Berry were absent).
INTRODUCTIONS
Maria De Leon introduced Bill Headley, Operations Supervisor for Parks, Operations Manager
David Stubehaer and Recreation Supervisor Judy Mireles-Janisch. Ms. De Leon also welcomed
Moe McHenry and thanked him for serving the Commission until a new member can be found.
AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS
Commissioner Scheel presented Commissioner Garcia with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the
Parks & Recreation Commission for her dedicated service to the Commission.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Presentation on the Parks & Recreation System Master Plan -Bill Headley
Bill Headley, Operations Supervisor for Parks gave a "Presentation on the Parks and
Recreation System Master Plan. Questions followed.
The Commission thanked Mr. Headley for his informative presentation.
B. Quarterly Report on Youth Scholarship Funds & Distribution (Oct, Nov. Dec.)
Judy Mireles-Janisch reported that $1,657 was awarded in scholarships this past quarter.
The Youth Scholarship Fund currently has a balance of $32,000.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Election of Chair and Vice Chair of 2016 Parks & Recreation Commission
Motion made by Commissioner Puente to postpone this item to the February
Meeting and it was seconded by Commissioner McHenry.
Motion passed unanimously (5-0-2, Commissioners Almash and Berry were absent).
B. Selection of Parks & Recreation Commission Representatives to Bicycle Pedestrian
Commission; Gang Task Force; Library Commission; Senior Advisory Board and
Youth Commission
Motion made by Commissioner Lehman to postpone this item to the February
Meeting and it was seconded by Commissioner Puente.
Motion passed unanimously (5-0-2, Commissioners Almash and Berry were absent).

COMMISSION PARK REPORTS & COMMENTS
Commissioner Puente was happy to report that there are new doggie waste bags and some new
park benches at San Ysidro Park.
Chair Garcia has been appointed as a board member to the California Association of Parks and
Recreation Commissioners and Board Members.
Commissioner McHenry thanked everyone for Breakfast with Santa. He reported that it was a
very successful event.
STAFF COMMENTS
Maria De Leon reported that if time allows there will be construction of shade shelters at the
Aquatics Center before the start of the 2016 summer aquatic season.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Garcia adjourned the meeting at 7:17 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be held on Tuesday,
February 16, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at 7351 Rosanna Street, Gilroy, CA 95020.
