CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair Bentson at 6:01 p.m. II. FLAG SALUTE Chair Bentson led the pledge of allegiance. III. SECRETARY'S REPORT The packet was posted on the City's website on June 13, 2019 at 2:50 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Chair Patricia Bentson, Commissioner Michelle Wexler, Commissioner Theresa Graham, and Commissioner Terrie Berry. Excused Absence: Vice Chair Ermelindo Puente, Commissioner Marcos Gonzalez, and Commissioner Robert Miller. Staff present: Recreation Manager Adam Henig, and Parks Supervisor Bill Headley. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion was made by Commissioner Berry; seconded by Commissioner Wexler and carried with a vote to approve the May 21, 2019 minutes with a vote of 4-0-0. V. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Motion was made by Commissioner Berry; seconded by Commissioner Graham and carried with a vote to approve the agenda as written with a vote 4-0-0. VI. INTRODUCTIONS None. VII. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS Page 2 of 4 None. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None. IX. NEW BUSINESS A. Parks and Recreation Commission Presentation to City Council Chair Bentson provided a preview of the Annual Parks and Recreation Commission Presentation scheduled for the July 1, 2019 City Council Meeting. X. OLD BUSINESS A. 2019 Parks and Recreation Commission Work Plan Recreation Manager Henig referred commissioners to packet page 14. Henig noted $850.00 has been raised for the youth scholarship . The youth scholarship fund is ongoing. Henig stated City Council will issue a proclamation naming July Parks Makes Life Better month at its July 1, 2019 meeting. Parks Supervisor Headley stated the directional signage to San Ysidro Park will likely occur sometime at the end of summer or early fall. At Party in the Park, which is scheduled for June 21, 2019, as part of the grant application process for Proposition 68, staff and parks and recreation commissioners will be engaging community members to survey what they would like to be added to the park (e.g., rock climbing wall, skate park, expanded barbeque area, etc.). This is the final community input needed before the application is submitted. B. Fiscal Year 2019 Training Budget Expenditures Henig referred commissioners to packet page 16. No change since last month's meeting. Starting in July 1, 2019, the budget will reset to $1,000.00. XI. DEPARTMENT UPDATES A. Recreation Department Updates Page 3 of 4 Henig stated June 17, 2019 was the first day of summer camps at Gilroy Gardens. The Aquatics Center at Christopher High School is now open to the public through August 4, 2019. Tickets to The Wizard of Oz are available for purchase; opening night is July 12, 2019 and it will run through July 21, 2019 at Gilroy High School Theater. Staff is in the process of acquiring new recreation registration software. Implementation date has not been set yet. More details to come. B. Status of City Parks 1. Staff Report: Bill Headley, Parks Supervisor 2. Public Comment 3. Possible Action: Receive report and comment. Parks Supervisor Headley directed the commissioners to packet page 21. No change. Headley stated the San Ysidro Park restroom door is inoperable but is in the budget request. Port-a-Potties will be provided for the 'Party in the Park' event taking place on June 21, 2019 to provide additional restroom for the expected large crowd. XII. COMMISSIONER PARK REPORTS & COMMENTS Park Assignments Pat Bentson: Christmas Hill Park - Nothing to report. Cydney Casper- warranty issue with the park Del Rey Park- Noticed trampled vegetation. Terrie Berry: Carriage Hills Park, Los Arroyos Park, and Sunrise Park - Nothing to report. Marcos Gonzalez: Las Animas Veterans Park Theresa Graham: Miller Park- Concerned with over hanging dead branches. Rainbow Park - The trees planted on Arbor Day look good. Ermelindo Puente: Butcher Park, Forest Street Park, Renz Park, and San Ysidro Park Michelle Wexler: Hecker Pass Park-Nothing to report. Stated there is a tree missing on 6th and Monterey. NEXT MONTH AGENDA ITEMS Bentson hasn't heard from GPAC; deadline for next month’s meeting is scheduled for July 16, 2019; the agenda item deadline will be July 5, 2019. XV. ADJOURNMENT Chair Bentson adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m. XVI. FUTURE MEETINGS The next regular Parks and Recreation meeting will be July 16, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in City Councils chamber.
