Subject: EXTERNAL - Santa Teresa Fire Station Staffing
Dear Members of Gilroy City Council,
It is my understanding that the Santa Teresa Fire Station has been unstaffed as of this year.
This is distressing to me a resident of Gilroy because my infant son has recently been
diagnosed with epilepsy. His first seizure when he was just seven months old. As you can
imagine this was terrifying! We have needed to call 911 seven times since March. The last
time we called 911 the response time was more than 16 minutes, half of this time our son was
seizing! Due to his young age, there is no emergency medication to use to stop his seizures.
Therefore, our only option is to call 911. Needless to say this Fire Station is life saving help
for our one year old baby. As his seizures progress in length it can have life altering results. As
we work with our doctor to find the right medication and dose to control his seizures we rely
on the availability of the services of Gilroy Fire department to help our son.
Please staff the Santa Teresa Fire Station adequately to serve the citizens on the south end of
town as this city continues to grow the town in this area.
Thank you for attention and swift action.
Sincerely,
Ryan Gordon
