From:Louie Andrade To:Public Comments Subject:EXTERNAL - Regressive Resolution Date:Monday, September 16, 2024 4:08:13 PM Tonight, our community faces a critical decision that could undermine decades of social progress. A proposal initiative by Councilmember Marques and supported by Cline, Bracco, and Mayor Blankley, will be on the agenda tonight that endorses tactics historically linked to voter suppression. These measures disproportionately harm marginalized groups, including people of color, the disabled, seniors, the LGBTQIA community, and young voters. It is alarming to see our leaders supporting baseless claims and ignoring credible evidence. While this resolution may seem symbolic, it paves the way for harmful, unconstitutional, and treasonous policies like those seen in communities nationwide that target vulnerable populations. I strongly urge you to voice your opposition as elected officials, as it is your duty to uphold the principles of equality and justice. Voter suppression, in any form, has no place in our community, and endorsing these tactics would represent a significant step backward for our progress as a society. I urge you to reconsider your support for this resolution and instead work toward policies that protect and expand voting rights for all. Vote against this resolution and stand on the side of inclusion, justice, and democracy. Regards, Louie C. Andrade City Council Meeting 09/16/2024 Agenda Item 10.4
