September 09, 2024 6:00 PM Page 2 of 3 Youth Commission Regular Meeting Minutes 8. NEW BUSINESS 8.1. Treasurer's Report for the Youth Commission as of September 1, 2024. Treasurer Lai reported the Treasurer's Report as stated in the staff report. During the previous term, the Commission spent $737.90 and has a current balance of $1,068.83 in its account 8.2. Discuss and Adopt FY2025 (July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025) Budget Cycle Youth Commission Work Plan Henig presented his staff report. During his presentation, he shared examples of what other youth commissions around the country are working on, which was mentioned in the staff report. He also shared what the Commission has worked on previously. He empathized the need for the commission to adopt a legislative/policy task into their work plan. Chair James directed the Commission to form small groups to discuss ideas for a proposed work plan. Each group shared their ideas: • Commissioner Anna Nguyen’s group would like to consider expanding on the city’s need for a youth center. Her group also considered working on an environmental issue in partnership with the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), who spoke at the August meeting. • Vice Chair Beyret’s group wanted to continue offering smaller events like Tech Week and Breakfast with Santa. She also wanted to bring back OpportuniTEEN fair and add a focus on college, providing support for resumes and scholarships. • Commissioner Sarath concurred with bringing back the OpportuniTEEN Fair and wanted to incorporate an environmental issue. Chair James proposed to table the discussion and adopt a work plan in October. Commissioner Jaimee Nguyen motioned to table the discussion until the next meeting. Sandoval Rodriguez seconded. Motion passed 9-0-2.
