CALL TO ORDER Chair Coverson-Baxter called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm. 2. SECRETARY'S REPORT The meeting agenda was posted online and in the City Hall kiosk on Friday, March 8, 2024. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 4.1. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6.1. Review Library Commission Workplan for Fiscal Years 2024 and 2025 Henig reviewed the current work plan with the Commission. Here were the following updates: • Coverson-Baxter, who was selected by the Commission to attend the American Library Association’s annual conference, has been registered and her hotel and flight are booked. Baxter was seeking input on the ALA conference schedule, which was recently made available. The commission and library staff recommended she attend the following sessions: o Fostering Conversation and Connection Among Community Members with Contrasting Political Views March 13, 2024 | 7:00 PM Page 2 of 3 Library Commission Regular Meeting Minutes o Uplifting Diverse Voices Through Inclusive Library Service o Little Free Library and Public Library Collaborations: Not Just for the Front Yard Anymore o Bridging the Gap - Serving Beyond the Walls o City as Classroom: Empowering Youth to Rewrite Law o Current Topics for Library Boards/Trustees o Team of Teams: A Collaborative Model for Workgroups o We are Water: Connecting Communities, Sharing Stories, Sharing Place o Not Just One Thing: Intellectual Freedom and Information Literacy through a Social Justice Lens o REFORMA's Children in Crisis Project - Creating Immigrant Youth and Library Connections o What about your friends? Strengthening relationships with your Friend of the Library groups • Baxter will bring back a proposed conference schedule for the Commission to review and provide feedback. • For promotion, there were two members of the public attending this commission meeting, who expressed interest in serving on the commission. Baxter recommended staff create a A-frame sign to have in the lobby when the meeting is occurring. • Regarding the library bond, the City has completed its due diligence in terms of how the funds can be spent. Next steps will include a report to the Council to official add the project to the City’s Five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and formulate a plan which will include reinstating the Library Bond Oversight Committee and collaborating with stakeholders on the conceptual design. 7. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None. 8. LIBRARY REPORTS 8.1. County Library report for February 2024 and March 2024 County Librarian Jennifer Weeks presented her report that included the following: • Silicon Valley Reads 2024 • Annual Library Forum. The theme was the Power of Play. • Women’s History Month and Black History Month • The County’s poet laureate • Helping children prepare for kindergarten 8.2. Gilroy Library Report Gilroy Librarian Casandra Wong discussed the following from her report. • Wong will present the Storywalk program to the Parks & Recreation Commission at an upcoming meeting. • Dia De Los Ninos, summer programs, grants, statistical data, • Highlights from February and March • Reading Across American at Glenview Elementary School March 13, 2024 | 7:00 PM Page 3 of 3 Library Commission Regular Meeting Minutes • Pop-up Library • Battle of the Books • Lunar New Year Wong also answered questions about circulation, the differences between the libraries within the district, and its emphasis on incorporating inclusion in its programming. 9.
