7. PRESENTATION
7.1. The Miller Red Barn Association (Part II)
The members of the Miller Red Barn Association discussed what they are currently
working on (installation of interpretive panels) and their plans for the future. Various
questions were asked by commissioners about the Barn’s needs and how the City can
support them.

8. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA
None.
9. NEW BUSINESS
None.
10. OLD BUSINESS
10.1. Potential Pickleball Court Evaluation Project - Forms Distribution
Mr. Atkins distributed the pickleball court location scoring sheets.
Commissioners have until the August 20 meeting to visit and score all 15
possible locations. The scoring is done on a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being the highest.
Commissioners were instructed when rating a location to assume there will only
be one court built.
10.2. Review of FY24 and FY25 Parks and Recreation Commission Work Plan
Mr. Henig reviewed the Commission’s Work Plan and the following updates
were mentioned:
• Arbor Day will be held at Rainbow Park in the early fall.
• Training opportunities – Silicon Valley Bicycle Summit will be held on
August 29 in South San Francisco. Commissioners are encouraged to
attend.
• Study opportunities for dedicated funding for Parks and Recreation
– Chair Bentson met with Executive Staff Liaison Heba El-Guindy to
discuss the topic. Bentson was given letters of support to sign for a park-
related grant opportunity.
11. DEPARTMENT UPDATES
11.1. Recreation Division Updates
Mr. Henig provided an update of the Recreation Division as described in his staff
report.
11.2. Status of City Parks
Parks Supervisor John Sousa provided the following updates:
• Christmas Hill Park –
o Restrooms at Mulberry are being installed on Wednesday, June
19. The other restrooms will open the following week.
• Parks has hired two new staff.
• The handball courts at San Ysidro Park have been refurbished.
• There will be more benches added to the Dog Park.

• There is dedication ceremony at the pop park on Saturday, June 22. The
inclusive playground panels are going to be installed prior to the
ceremony.
• The playground fiber project has been completed.
12. BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN ENCOURAGEMENT & EDUCATION
None.
13. COMMISSIONER PARK REPORTS & COMMENTS
Commissioners made comments the following comments about their park assignments:
• Bentson – At Del Rey, the cement is still lifted near playground area. At Casper,
there are trees missing. She also noted the hopscotch was painted.
• Bozzo – At Carriage Hills, saw basketball being played on the court. Noted there
was a lot of soccer players at Miller Park.
• Graham – Christmas Hill Park looked great. Enjoyed seeing that Rainbow, Los
Arroyos, and Las Animas were relatively clean and mowed.
• Ramirez – Las Animas looked good. He noted that the bridge in the park may
need to be evaluated by city staff. There was graffiti by the bench.
14. STAFF COMMENTS
No meeting in July.
15. FUTURE COMMISSIONER INITIATED ITEMS
Bentson requested that the Commission consider penning a supportive letter to the City
Council about the economic benefits of the Red Barn. The rest of the commission is
supportive of it.
16. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Bentson adjourned the meeting at 7:38 p.m.
